Gun Rights Demonstration

I can't be on the mall in D.C. this morning.

I don't understand.

The March FOL didn't get a permit for The Mall and had to do this Anti staged "march" on Pennsylvania Ave.

It will take place shortly between 3rd NW and 12th NW Pennsylvania Ave NW and 3rd Street NW.

Was also down near the mall area earlier today. People everywhere, including the mall. Pennsylvania avenue is jam packed.

People bused in from all over (who is paying for this?). Hotels and motels jammed (who is paying for this?). Professionally printed signage and banners (again ... who is paying for this?). I respect those who are expressing frustration with gun violence, though it really is clear that these kids are following the herd. This feels less like free speech, than organized paid speech.

Other groups jumping on the bandwagon. D.A.R.E. tables (which I though were anti-drug) at two supermarkets, both with people soliciting for donations, with "enough" and "common sense gun control" as their tag lines too.

This is the part that media is missing (or more likely omitting, because they are part of it) - what may well be a concern being voiced by some young people, has been quickly co-opted by political and corporate interests.

Oh, of course, DC gov't took the opportunity to further curtail the limited concealed carry rights in DC, by declaring an rolling no-gun/no-carry zone:

It all depends on whose ox is getting gored. Today, they don't care about gun rights (ours in actuality, or even theirs, hypothetically). All they care about is their shattered illusion of an affluent suburban safety. Sacrificing your liberty for their sense of safety seems like it will accomplish something, but in the end it will never be enough.

Blather, mince, repeat.

The bottom line is that we are a Republic, not a Democracy (like these kids think). This means that no matter what the majority says individuals still have the right to keep and bear arms.

Unfortunately, these kids do not understand this concept. They believe in majority rule on everything, even on the other rights spelled out in the Constitution. This is how they can argue for restricting speech with a straight face. They see nothing wrong with mob rule.

Leftists are unblushingly parading traumatized teens to make an emotional plea about gun control and the supposed evils of the Second Amendment.

But we don't let adolescents drive policy, eh?

Are juveniles innocents or are they leaders?

Are they fully autonomous decision-makers, or are they lumps of mental clay, still being molded by unfolding brain development?

The answer appears to be relatively simple: Schoolkids are not fully rational actors. They’re not capable of exercising supreme responsibilities. And nobody should be treating innocence as a political asset used to push the agenda of more sophisticated players.

It's not just "these kids" - its a lot of people in Congress too, and in media, and in corporate America.

I don't concur that these activists are in the majority. However, they are effectively controlling the microphone right now - in traditional media, in news, on social media, and in part of government. The dialogue is entirely one-sided IMHO, with a media full-court press .. and a social media press ... and corporate America falling right into line.

A congress of Democratic Attorneys General met this week, and are rallying around "common sense" gun control Maryland-style - meaning AWB, 10 roung mag limits, bump stock bans, universal background checks, and licensing of gun owners.

This activism will continue find its way into Congress and into state legislatures. Maryland's legislature is looking at three new gun control measures (on top of the already onerous firearms restrictions in the state). A whopping 70 gun-related bills we introduced in the Virginia legilature this session. Only one passed, but had one or two elections gone the other way in this state, VA could easily have started going the way of MD.

Back to the original topic - "these kids" are being used as a prop and as a tool by gun control advocates.
