Bought a gun today for $576 and change. As I got ready to leave the order taker didn't even bother to say thanks. I guess she thought she was doing me a favor.

Maybe she was really busy or having a bad day.
Little stuff like that bugs me too...but if it's a good shop, don't let that discourage you from doing business there again. Sometimes just one or two bad employees give a shop a bad rep.

Careful, folks. As a person who's been on the other end of the counter, it's easy to bash someone who made a slip. It happens. If there's a pattern of behavior from the same person, that's one thing, but something like this is probably just that, a slip.
Considering the nerve wracking crap that ATF puts dealers and their employees through, be glad you can buy a gun.

Maybe we don't know all the facts. Like there was possibly some body odor or bad breath involved. 
Common courtesy has gone out the window with things like responsible parenting. No one cares about anyone else anymore it seems. I hate rude people in retail. If they don't like dealing with people, find another job. Gun shops in particular seem to be a problem. I have noticed, though, that the more I visit the shop over by work, and the more money I spend there, the nicer the staff seem to get.

While I lament the apparent passing of the practise of good manners in our society, I have to join those who ask if something else might have been going on.
One of the reasons I frequent the gunshop I do (besides the fact that it's right around the corner from my house) is that I have a really good relationship with the proprietor. I am generally greeted by any of the regulars who happen to be there (as I also greet regulars who show up when I am in the shop). We also try to be friendly to new people who may wander in, even the women who mistake the shop for the hair-dresser next door. and you should see some of the looks we get when they realize just where the heck they are!
Is this your regular shop? Was it busy? Was she having a tough day? We don't know any of this. Granted there is no excuse for not being polite to a customer, but there may be some further explanation.
Bottom line for me: if you were reasonably polite then they should be the same in response to you. If they can't be (and I have been in stores that fit this description) you should take your business somewhere else, even if it costs you a few bucks more.

I understand your discord concerning the lack of courtesy after closing the deal but...........The shop provided you with what you wanted, you accepted the purchase price, and the process of your background check had started. I don't see a problem. If a pleasant shopping experience is what you need to continue to be a patron of the shop then I don't think you spent enough time

Its funny, I have purchased dozens of guns and everytime
I get a smile and a hearty handshake.
Even when I buy a $50 junker from a shop the owner thanks me
and seems pleased that I like my purchase.
I've been to rude smarmy gunshops where prices were bad, the service was bad and they couldn't care less that I was in there with a fist full of fifties. Needless to say I don't buy from them.

Far too many folks in retail don't make the connection between sales, customer satisfaction, and their paycheck. K-Mart and Sears execs still don't understand what happened to them. But they still have high paying jobs... while several thousand of their hourly employees do not. The problem starts with management. Clerks will usually do what is asked of them - but If management doesn't care - neither will they.
