I have long enjoyed the Quinns' site. Jeff's a seasoned shooter whose taste in guns is pretty similar to mine. This is a generally useful review of Ruger's new 9mm:

http://gunblast.com/Ruger-SR9.htm

Capsule version:

* Fed everything perfectly.

* Feels much slimmer than a Glock 9mm.

* Accuracy was kind of lame (grouping w/ best loads was "about three inches" at 25; others were up to 4.5")

* Trigger pull stinks if you dry fire w/ magazine removed, but you shouldn't do that anyway.

* Trigger pull is not bad with the magazine in, and improves w/ use. (That was also my own experience w/ the SR9 - a decent trigger.)

* Sight picture is nice.

* Magazines are "pretty hard to load" without a good mag loader. (Also my experience. A flaw. Ruger ought to address it.)

* Ambi safety is nice for lefties.

* Quinn sometimes "recommends" or "highly recommends" the guns he reviews. He by no means always does this. Thus, the recommendation actually has some weight. (People who bash Quinn for always giving positive reviews should keep an eye on the "recommends.")
FWIW, he did not say that he "recommends" the SR9.

Yeah, I have never read a bad review from him save for the PS-90, and that was more along the lines of "what it is good for?". He sometimes goes off the deep end on the politico ramblings which make him look a little loony. Also, who the heck hunts with frangible ammo???

Edit: Oh yeah, he still uses glasers. He probably has a closet full of nyclad as well.

That PS90 review wasn't by Quinn, but by a guest writer.

I do think he's off base using Glasers in a snubby .38, and I get uncomfortable seeing him buddy up with the Extreme Shock folks with their ignorant advertising and marketing. But otherwise he's pretty sound.

Gunblast has long had a good lineup of guest writers. Paco Kelly and Mike Cumpston know a lot about guns, and are talented prosemongers in their very different manners. Wish we saw more from them. R.K. Campbell is a clear-headed and sensible reviewer; I always read the stuff with his byline.
