Guns and the mentally ill (aka. A public apology.)

I am so embarrassed.

It would seem that a few of you had the (pleasure?:uhoh: ) of meeting my friends son earlier today while he was pretending to be myself.

Without going into too many details a little background is necessary to explain. This young man is 16 y/o and suffers from an “undetermined” mental condition. He also happens to have an IQ. of 148. I’m sure you can see how this would make life interesting for his parents (and anyone else he comes in contact with.)

Any way, while here on one of their rare visits I allowed him to play a game on the computer. Apparently he spotted the post-it with my u.n. and password for this site and decided to check it out. After reading my past posts he decided to “be uncle J--“ for a while.:fire: Now he has known me for his entire life so for him this would not be too difficult. I was actually engaged in a conversation with his folks about being a stay at home dad at the time so I guess he fixated on that. (He fixates on a lot of things. ) Interestingly most of what he said was true. However following his usual pattern of behavior he just got progressively stranger.

You all actually got off pretty easy. He was in the process of composing the start of a third thread on the topic when I caught him. I am not even going to begin to tell you all what he had to say in that one.:what: I can’t say that I even remotely understand why he does things like this but it is not the first time.

After a strong talking to I don’t think it will be a problem again. At least I hope not.

At any rate. I apologize to everyone for this. Hopefully we can move on. I know that I am kind of strange but I don’t think I’m that weird yet.

Oh, so that I’m not completely off topic (joke intended) I always make sure that all weapons are well secured during these visits.

Gotta memorize those passwords...

My solution is to put all my passwords in a MSWord file called "passwords" and than password protect that file with one that I memorize...

Or you could be like the idiots who intrepret the instruction "Enter Password" literally and have "password" as their password.:D

Funny, it's usually the little brother who comes on and posts random things. It was nice of him to let us know you are still waiting for your C&R between the random posts.

I actually enjoyed the first topic as we are 11 days away from the due date of our first born and I will be quitting and staying home.

Man, that sucks. Been there, had that happen...sorta

Back in my college days (not too long ago actually) I kept in contact with all of my friends via instant messenger. One evening some buddies and I were hanging out at my place enjoying a few cold brews. One of my friends was on my computer messing around. I really didn't think anything of it at the time since it wasn't the first time I've let people get on my computer for some reason or another. Anyway, the next day I saw a female friend of mine at the bus stop, I walked over and was promptly decked right in the face. She then proceeded to scream and chew me out over all of these nasty dirty things I supposedly said to her the night before. It was in front of everyone at the bus stop and unbelievably embarassing. I was totally bewildered and couldn't for the life of me figure out what the hell she was talking about. I went home and checked the message log and sure enough, my buddy, in his drunken state, jumped on my instant messenger account and start talking dirty to nearly every female on my list. Man, it was a huge mess. What's worse, it like pulling teeth to get my friend to admit he did it and then apologize to everyone for me.

Moral of the story: keep those passwords secure!
Guard them like you'd guard the key to your gun safe!

now that he knows your username and password, you need to come up with a new one or else some of us may be skeptical of all your future posts.

Forgive them for they know not what they do.

Oh, to be a weird kid again, I miss those days. Encourage the quirkiness, it keeps things interesting. However, encourage respect more.

With an IQ of 148, he just can't help himself.

...will the real "fanof357" please stand up?

I only have one comment:

...will the real "fanof357" please stand up? :D

eWallet (especially if you have a Pocket PC or a Palm). Then you can keep all your passwords in a secure location. I have, ummmm, oh good LORD! I have 117 different passwords in there. Sheesh that's just silly.

Like almost everyone here, I decided to test fanof357's claim by reading all of his previous posts. I'm sure fan expected that and understands. We have gotten more excuses of the "someone else used my computer and password" over the years than you might suspect. Most of them get deleted or "archived".

I found a bit of circumstantial evidence that tends to make his explanation here credible. In the thread from yesterday, the poster said, "still don't know how to do that quote thing" when he added a quote from a previous post. However, it appears that the real fanof357 knew how to use the quote feature almost immediately after joining THR: http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?p=2681240#post2681240

Yeah, 03Shadowbob,
We wouldn't want to appear "skeptical" of a faceless stranger on the Internet, or, uh, um... anything...

I bet I'll get flamed.

I'm skeptical because;

A 16 y.o. kid with an IQ of 148 (that qualifies him as legally retarded)
won't know words like;
maladies
incongruity
pondering (well maybe he will)

Unless all the mentally handicapped people I've known and worked with were also lazy and not willing to expand their vocabulary.

His writing ability won't be that high.

How does this kid know about this?
Aside from my physical maladies which have been discussed on this site before

or do you talk about all you posts with him?

I thought the topic interesting-though not gun related.

And to answer you-a man is someone who will take responsibility for their actions and not blame others...especially retarded children.

So flame away

A 16 y.o. kid with an IQ of 148 (that qualifies him as legally retarded)

kungfu, before I say anything else, let me say that like you I am skeptical. But I must ask. By what standard is 148 considered legally retarded?

Cut his IQ in half, he's still not retarded.

your right mentally retarded is legally 70 and below.

MMMMM...crow:D

Your right, I must be the retarded one...100 is average, 148 is freaking smart.

(I was thinking that 200 was average but didn't forest Gump have an IQ of 65?)

Just goes to show that stormdrain design and IQ numbers shouldn't be mixed:neener: now I've got to recheck my work!!!

Well I take it all back...I am still skeptical but not because of vocabulary.

After reading other posts the writing style seams to match too. And the familiarity with previous posts...

So I won't call the kid legally retarded he's got more mental potental than most of us.

I checked out those posts, might be some weird kind of insight to be gleaned from reading what a 'non-gun' person, not necessarily an anti would ask on this forum.
