guns that exceeded your expectations

My Rohrbaugh R9s w/ CF grips is the smallest 9mm that I can "truly" pocket carry (over FP-9, Sig 290, Solo ect). Snag free, heel mag release and unsurpassed craftsmanship; it sits in my back pocket in khakis most days. It now occupies around 50% of my carry rotation and have had zero issues with the gun. I could not be more happy with my purchase.

Also my FEG PJK-9HP which I bought used has taken a beating over the last 5 years and it continues to click.

Two of them actualy, one is my Tikka T3 Stainless 6.5x55, amazing rifle, perfect action and trigger, perfect egronomics, light as a feather, mild manners, and deadly accurate. The other is a XD 40 5" tactical, streight out of the box 0 jams and accuracy so good if I told you everyone would call me a liar, lets just say I have owned rifles that would not group as well as that pistol.

I own 2 weapons in particular that fit that description. A Kimber Eclipse Custom II and a DPMS bull 20" AR 15. I was told over and over again that I would be sorry if I purchased these 2 particular weapons. Well as it turns out both of them have been excellent for their intended purpose....which has been to shoot the snot out of them.

My expectations were quite low but I couldn't turn them down for the price I got them for. Now they are worth much more to me than what I paid and I'm not sorry to have made those purchases.

Glock 26 and 30. I had a G17 but when I got my CCW I needed something smaller for summers in Arizona. I bought the G26 figuring it would be fine for CCW. I had no idea something that small would be so sweet. The G30 I rented just because it had been years since I fired a .45, I sure was not looking to buy one. I was so impressed I bought one. So both exceeded expectations.

Ruger GP-100 in .357 Mag and a Kimber 1911 in .45 ACP. The Springfield XD in .45 ACP and 9mm are what I would consider honorable mentions.

I could be mistakened, but those look like Nighthawk pistols. How could you possibly be "wowed" by what might be considered some of, if not the greatest production fighting pistols made???

I was thinking the same thing... I would be hard pressed to drop 2 grand plus on a handgun and then find the level of quality to be pleasantly surprising. Can't say I blame him for wanting to show them off though.

My Ruger Security Six stainless with 2.75 inch barrel in .357 magnum. 30 years and still shoots great.

Mosin Nagant, never thought I could get a durable high caliber milsurp rifle of decent manufacture under $100.

Also had a Raven that surprised me. Never expected such a cheap little pistol to work so well.

Hi Point JHP .45
Hasn't blown up on me yet. From what I hear on the interwebz, I expected it to blow up before I even got it loaded. Then afterwards, fire the loaded bullets backward into my face.

Makarov darn thing shoots!
Kel-Tec p11 Despite claims to the contrary it is darn reliable
Ruger SP101 Amazingly pleasant to shoot

In general, I think that exceeding expectation and cost are inversely proportional. With that in mind, the one pistol that completely and utterly surprised me in terms of quality, ergonomics, accuracy and reliability is the SIG P239 SAS Gen 2 that I bought last year. This is going to be my primary carry pistol once I have my CCHL in Arkansas. I have some nice 1911s that cost three times as much, and there's no doubt that the Ed Browns were all I expected and more, but the P239 has been the biggest surprise ... in a very good way.

Makarov.

I bought it cheap as a car gun. Now I wouldn't part with it for anything. I suppose I should now get a CZ82 for that purpose. But from what I hear, I'll like it as well as the Makarov
You may like it more. The 82's are nicer shooters than the Maks.

I love my Sig Sauers. I have a stainless P226 in .40 and a P220 .45. Extremely reliable and accurate for a stock battle guns. I did have the triggers reworked slightly by the Sig factory armorers.

Another gun that surprised the living heck out of me was on I recently bought on a whim for $400. It was a the latest model EAA Witness in 9mm. It came with an 18 round mag and a .22LR conversion slide and mag as well. For $400.! My EAA shoots amazingly and I have not had one malfuntion in 2,000 rounds so far. Very accurate, more so than my Glocks.

Hi Point C-9, in 9mm. I got it to see how "bad" it really was. According to everything I read on these boards, it would drain the gas out of my car, dull my fish hooks, scratch my boat, kick my dog, take my daughter out on a motorcycle, and hit on my wife.

All it did was shoot. Go figure.

Really? I've found these forums to be fairly positive or at least neutral when it comes to opinions of the Hi Points. While they usually recommend a better gun (as do I) they admit that the C9 isn't a terrible gun for folks on a budget and will probably do its job fine. From $600 pistols to $150 pistols I recommend that you test anything extensively before relying on it for defense.

Ruger GP-100 with a 6" barrel. Blued. Traded in my G23 for it. I shot a full box of 158 gr soft points out of it at 20 yards and it's a pleasure to shoot and plenty accurate. The weight eats recoil. Just upgraded the front blade sight to a Hi-Viz and will get it dialed in before gun season starts up.

The little pf9 really exceeded my expectations too...so much so after I sold it I went and bought another one. No malfunctions, very versitle and under 300 bux new in box.

1.) FEG hi power copy.
2.) Colt Woodsman Match Target 1st series.

The colt i was expecting to be nice, but wow has to be the most accurate pistol I have ever shot!

The FEG i actually bought two of. I was looking for a cheap copy of the Hi-power. TUrns out I made the right choice. The wife loves hers and so do I. Decided i didnt need two so i got ride of one. It has a nice trigger, really accurate. I just want to upgrade the sights and the thumb saftey.
