Guns you thought you’d like but didn’t…

Kind of an opposite thread to the popular “guns you thought you’d hate…”

What guns did you try or buy thinking “this is gonna be great…” but ended up either disliking or just not thrilled with and got rid of. Not looking to bash any guns or choices here, just preferences and opinions…we all have them…

For me, the two that comes to mind the most are the Staccato P Duo and the Sig P320 X Compact.

I bought both new with high expectations of “gun goodness”, but after a few range sessions, I decided that they just weren’t for me. I shot them fine, but they simply didn’t feel right for me. I ended up selling both to friends, and got most of my money back…so all is good.

As far as long guns, the Ruger SR-556 and PSA PA-10 were both good rifles, but I came to the conclusion they were heavy for what I wanted to use them for and both were sold off during gun frenzy years and I got all my money back.

To be clear, none of them were bad choices…just not right for me.

1911s. Thought everybody should have one. I've had several at this point and the platform just doesn't work for me. I find that double-stack Glocks fill my hand and point better. Nothing wrong with 1911s; I'm just not a fan.

Lever guns. Again, I've owned multiple Marlins in .30-30, .44 mag, and .357 mag. I still think they look cool. I had a very slick 1894 in .357 that looked and functioned beautifully. But much as I want to like lever actions, I've proven over and over to myself I really don't. So no 1911s or levers in the safe.
 
Smith and Wesson Trail Boss revolver in .44 mag. Beautiful pistol but painful to shoot even with gloves. Traded a Ruger super redhawk in .454 Casull for same reason. Found other big bores (anaconda) that worked much better for me.
 
Nothing I really "hate"... but a handful of impulse buys that probably could have just as well sat where they were TBH. I'm not really naming names because most are still unfired by me, so it's not really fair to say I don't "like" the purchases yet. A couple others got used as trade bait.

I should have researched the S&W model 317 a little more, and I probably wouldn't go down that road if I did it all over again. Even though it ended up working out fine after all was said and done.



That being said, 90% of whatever has been good to great - old or new. Which isn't too surprising with researched purchases, but kind of is with impulse buys IMO. I consider myself fortunate on that front.
 
Sig P365. Bought one for the girlfriend, she hated I hated it worse. Sold it, she replaced it with a CZ pcr and then later also bought a shield plus.

Smith & Wesson metal competitor, cool looking, geared towards competition shooting. That thing sucked worse than Monica. Awful heavy gritty trigger, the grip inserts would get loose, and did nothing better than the poly version but cost twice as much. Got sold after 120ish rounds and bought a CZ TS2 ORANGE.

I’m sorry to say this is me too. Almost 28 years on active duty, you’d think I’d have 1911’s and Beretta 92’s in the safe but I currently have neither. Just not anything I can warm up to.

I do need to buy a 1911 at some point just to teach the grandkids on.
 
Beretta Neos. Bought one to add to the .22 collection. Awful trigger. Got rid of it. Springfield micro compact 3” 1911. Wouldn’t feed correctly. Went back to Springfield, came back, same problem. Buh bye.
 
No hate, Just a bit disappointed.
M&P AR-15 with 16" barrel. For me it wasn't a good "sight distance" for iron sights. And the general features never grew on me.

Quite reliable, used approx. 500 rds. before it was traded.

Springfield TRP , I couldn’t stand the sharp front strap on it . S&W M&P 340 , it was so light that it was no fun to shoot . Savage MKll synthetic stock , it just felt to cheap with that stock .
 
Im a big fan of the 7.62x39 round. Love my ak's and sks rifles. So when i built my first ar style rifle i knew i wanted it to be 7.62x39. And after a couple years of swapping parts and doin everything possible to make it run flawless it just wouldnt. I lost all faith in it to be reliable if i needed it to be. It would run pretty good with top shelf brass ammo but one of the best part about 7.62x39 is being able to run cheap steel and alot of it. Eventually i just rebuilt my ar in standard 5.56 and now shes a runner for sure. I was able to sell my stainless 7.62x39 barrel, bcg and all the mags to someone else who wanted try build a reliable 7.62x39 ar. Ive got friends that have built and bought 7.62x39 ar rifles and they work great i never could get a reliability i was happy with so changes had to be made. But i still have my ak's and sks rifles for my 7.62x39 fix and there not picky.
 
CZ Rami.
It felt really good to hold, disliked it the first time that I took it out to shoot. Didn't keep it long.
 
HK USP-40 (cheesegrater frontstrap, magazine capacity vs. honkin' big heavy size lacking, horrible ergonomics & I was issued this pig)
Kel-Tec P-40, P-11 (neither could get through an entire magazine after the first one without choking, brutal recoil with the P-40, but still went back to well to try in 9mm)
Ruger LC9 (first model, worst trigger ever)
Ruger SP-101 (heavy for its size, bad trigger, meh)
S&W Model 629 (4") (frankly, no fun at the range with magnum loads, but a good bear gun, I guess)
S&W 640 PD (*** was I thinking?)
 
Pretty much any rifle with a full pistol grip. Nothing wrong with them. I shoot them just fine, and ive tried to like them multiple times, just cant. I have a sub2000 and my LR rifle is in a chassis with a pistol grip....those are my last, and the chassis gun is getting a new stock when i get the chance.

Glocks simply because they chew on my thumb if i hold them the way im comfortable.
 
Astra A-90 .45 ACP. I'd had an A-80 before, and I was used to the incredibly long trigger pull already. Figured I was upgrading. I could NOT hit side of a barn from the inside with that gun. Had others shoot it, and they could hit just fine, just that gun hated me. We parted ways soon after.
