I was going over the state of Florida employment website & saw they are now offering a full time dept armorer/gunsmith opening at the Florida Highway Patrol(FHP) training academy.
The position starts at $44,000.00 USD & includes all state of Florida employee benefits, retirement plans, paid holidays, etc.
It's a non sworn position & the FHP requests applicants have formal training/armorer certifications with Remington & Glock. :D
To my knowledge, the agency converted from the Glock .45GAP to the 22 gen 04 RTF-02 about 2 years ago.
I've also heard from informed sources that the FHP command staff permits state troopers & investigators to carry private owned/approved M4s-ARs in 5.56x45mm on duty.

For details & applications, see: Myflorida.com or www.beatrooper.com .

FHP like many other FL departments went to the GAP and then went back to the 9mm and .40, likely because of the price and availability of the GAP.

The Remington cert requirement is likely because the sniper's carry 700's. At least my local FHP troop trains with them, I am sure it is a pretty standard high caliber "sniper rifle" among US agencies.

$44,000.00 is less than half what our rookie cops get paid in their first year. Less than what a Police Cadet gets too. That'd be an 19 to 21 year old with no training, experience or anything else. Mind you, they have to pay for 18 weeks training.

$44k in brevard county FL is about average for a rookie cop. Considering this is anon sworn officer, in the area it is not a bad pay for likely a non exempt position.

This wage, given the added state retirement bonus is well fair for the area.

Florida area wages....

Most PDs in Florida start at approx $34000.00. Some smaller agencies top out at around $48,000.00 for patrol officers.
State troopers & FWC(sworn game officers) start at approx $38,000.00.
The Florida Highway Patrol can never retain good troopers or criminal investigators. Calls for service can take up to 8 hours.

As noted, the FHP gunsmith slot would be a good way to learn the basics or refine gunsmithing skills.

It would look good on a resume too. ;)

That's not bad if you're already retired. I'm not moving to FL though.

Went to the website and didn't see an opening. It's been filled (those jobs generally are before being posted).
