H&K bringing the G36 here to USA...

That was the sweetest rifle I have ever shot. Way back in 05.

That's right, like HK, I'm exclusive.

Um yeah, the SL-8? That's been out for ages. Now, if it's an American produced variant, maybe..

I don't believe we're talking about that SL8 monstrosity. That's a neutered G-36 that came out of the '94 ban. I've heard someone on these forums mention something about a true G-36 for civilians coming to the US. And I'd LOVE to believe it. As long as it isn't $3,000, just like every new non-AR rifle seems to be.... Which it will be, because it's H&K, and they can do that.

To SL8 fans out there, don't get me wrong, it's an exceptional varmint/precision rifle, but it is not a G-36 clone. :/

Medusa, I can't tell you how fantastic that news is. Thank you HK!! You've done something right for the civilians!!

Also, it's barrel may be 5.56, and the gun just marked .223. I believe they did this with the SL8. They labeled it .223 Remington on the outside, and in this little space on the inside, it is marked 5.56x45 NATO. And that's how it was....

its not the SL-8 theyre making, its a semi automatic copy of the real deal G36.. i wanted one of these like 10 years ago but HK didnt give a damn about the american market then, so too little too late, ive lost interest in HK products.. hey, they cant even make a classy handgun anymore that isnt 75% plastic and 25% tacticool.. so ive been aware of the G36 coming to the civilian market, but knowing HK theyll charge you about $2,500 for a 90% plastic gun

look at the prices of the SCAR, ACR, IMIs tavor, the real steyr AUGs... yeah, $2,500 is my bottom end guess.. i have a LONG list of guns id rather have instead.. interesting enough is i dont think the prices of the next 5 guns i want combined will equal the price of the G36

I think it would have done pretty well a decade ago. Not so sure how it will do now with so many more next-gen designs, piston-ARs, and deluxe-AR builds out there on the market. Not to mention the price point of a Colt 6920. I'd bet for what the G36 will cost, you could have a Colt with an ACOG and Aimpoint to swap back and forth.

I've heard from some folks in the industry that $1500-$1600 is the MSRP they're kicking around. With any luck this will really happen!

Another $2k - $3k 5.56mm self loader coming to the market..... Cool?

I'll save my excitement for when someone brings a next-gen platform to the market at a price that competes with the 6920, that's when things will get interesting.

It will cost you first born child and it will have a 12 pound trigger pull like my buddy's HK91 :).

Just my .02,
LeonCarr

I feel bad for the schmoes who spent 2K$ on top of the SL8 to make a "clone" that I'm certain isn't quite as nice. Those probably won't hold there value once the real deals come out.

That's honestly what I'm thinking. What is there to be excited about? Most gun owners can't afford it, and if they can, then as mentioned earlier, they're far better off getting a 6920, T1, and a few cases of 5.56.

Of course, $1,600 is too much. Better to pay $2,400 for a SCAR, or $1,800 for an ACR, right?

If a buyer wants the latest greatest and it doesn't look like what everyone else on the block has, then expect a premium.

Or buy/build another AR for $800 like all the rest of us who can afford that. Really, tho, complaining you can't afford an exotic import battle rifle because it's too expensive is like complaining you can afford a Mercedes or BMW. If everyone could, then it would be considered passe, common as dirt.

You want a genuine Rolex for 19.99?

Be careful what you ask for. In the game of image building, you pay to keep others out, and that is what makes you look different. Otherwise you're another guy in Walmart Wranglers.

Oh boy, I can hardly wait.:scrutiny:
What is a Rolex? Is it fancy pair of Italian made loafers?

Who's complaining? I COULD go right out and buy a couple of these fancy new scar/g36/acr rifles, just like I COULD go out and buy a BMW, But either way I'd wind up with a tool with a cost that far exceeds its utility when compared to other market alternatives. Sure the latest HK, and the latest Ferrari are interesting to read about, but it's hard for me to get excited about paying that much extra when I can meet all my real needs for a fraction of the price. I guess that's why they call me cheap though.

Edit: what's wrong with Walmart wranglers? My wife bought me some pants for $30, half off the other day. I was kind of bummed when I learned that $30 was the price AFTER the half off discount.....

Edit to the edit: I didn't see the post on rumoured pricing before my original post, $1500 doesnt seem unreasonable for pricing on something like a G36, although it would be out of character for HK to offer a product with out the usual "HK style" pricing.

I don't think I've ever bought a gun to build my image.

I get what you are saying in regards to cars, clothes, and personal accessories though.

I think the luxury/exotic rifle market has become crowded since the creation of the G36. It also will probably compete with their M416-derived products. I would have preferred to see them work on streamlining those and trying to lower the price point. Wouldn't mind having a piston HK AR, but at the going price I am not sure they offer much to a casual civilian user like myself.

Heck, I think its one of the sexiest semi-auto rifles out there (M1A being king). If I had enough money, I'd probably get it, it is just so dang cool, especially if the performance was that of a Colt/Scar/insert name here rifle.

Except it appears to unfortunately use AR mags, and a different (uglier) stock. That railed forearm has to go, as well.

Some people don't like the AR mags. Especially because the standard G-36 magazines are supposed to be superior. Also, alot of people are purists, and really want an original/standard G-36 mag well.

You can buy H&K AR steel mags......alas not cheaply. My K2 came with two of them.
