Has anyone heard when we might see a semi-auto version of the CZ 805 Bren available in the USA? CZ has a reputation for excellent quality, ergonomics look good, 5.56/7.62x39 caliber changer is interesting. If it comes in cheaper than an H&K or FN, seems like a great option.

Gun Control Act of 1968...

As is...
The CZ805 is not legal for importation into the USA for civilian sale, due to being a foreign made MG.

If CZ made a semi-auto only variant it would also be not legal for importation for civilian sale, due to not meeting the "sporting purpose" requirement for importation into the USA.

Of course, correct me if I'm wrong, should they choose to open up a manufacturing facility in the US (If they haven't already) and the gun were made there, it's only a matter of whether they consider it to be a profit making weapon to sell.

They DID stop producing the VZ.58's for US sale, any idea where they made those anyways? Or did the military style ones manage to meet sporter status? Just a question of whether they did it because it wasnt worth it, either because of law or sales, or because they were preparing to maybe bring something in the same class to the market and didn't want to split sales?

I'm just making guesses here, but, I wouldn't mind getting my hands on one of those if they DO start selling them in the US.

So the H&K and FN semi-auto carbines sold in the USA are made here?
Yes.

The FN FS-2000, PS-90, SCAR-16S, SCAR-17S are made in the USA (South Carolina).

The H&K MR-556A1 is made in the USA (New Hampshire).
The H&K SL-8 and USC are imported into the USA.

They were discontinued because they ran out of parts kits.
The semi-auto only CZ VZ-58s were made in the USA from US made recievers and CZ parts kits.
Even though the VZ-58 is the standard issue rifle for the Czech military, it hasn't been in production since the early-'90s.
The Czech military is currently looking at a replacement for the VZ-58.

Not quite. The Vz.58 sold by CZ-USA and now Czechpoint has a Czech-made receiver that is opened up for high-capacity mags after importation. These rifles are of superb quality and are still being sold (see link).

The Vz.58 clones sold by Century were made using parts kits on U.S.-made receivers. These rifles dried up when the parts kits did.

Sorry, to clarify, I meant CZ stopped producing the VZ.58, I know that czechpoint still produces them. I just figured that they might intend on replacing it with something of a similar class of firearm. Who knows though? Not me.
