Which is a better improvement the previous model?

Dear THR:
Which is the better improvement then the previous model?

H&K USP 45 to H&K 45,
Glock 3rdGen to Glock 4thGen,
Beretta 92fs to Beretta 90Two, or
Sig 226 to Sig 226 Enhanced Elite.

Please discuss your pick. In case you believe one of these on fact not a good improvement kindly share thoughts as well.

I voted for the USP to P30/HK45 series because I think that series made the biggest stride from old to new in many departments. For instance, they replaced that "proprietary rail system" with a standard 1913 on the front end. They also made huge improvements in ergonomics. A full size USP feels like a brick to me compared to the wonderful tailored grip of the HK45. Then you have forward slide serrations, a larger magazine release lever, and more holster friendly sights.

I can't speak much for the Sig but as for Beretta and Glock I have opposite feelings of one to another. It seems like Glock didn't have a lot of room for improvement to take advantage of as their baseline was a good platform and Beretta had room for improvement in lots of places and just didn't come through. (I am a bit biased against Beretta pistols though) Just my personal thoughts though. YMMV

The most improvement from the prior model, for me, would rank


1. H&K: USP to HK45 - From a brick to a hand friendly grip, they incorporated the P2000 features well and the Nils designed grips are outstanding

2. Beretta 92FS to 90-Two - Slimming down a bulky grip to fit more folks. Plus I'm a huge Giorgetto Giugiaro (Ital Design) fan, who has designed, besides cars, everything from Nikon cameras to Apple computers

3. Glock Gen3 to Gen4 - the interchangeable backstrap inserts help a lot of people who couldn't get a correct grip before. It addressed the frame flex issues of the G22; but it didn't really cure the ejection issues for the 9mm Glocks

4. SIG 226R to Enhanced Elite - While the E2 grip panels do shorten the reach from the recurve of the backstrap to the trigger face, they also force the strong hand of the shooter lower on the gun. This seems to make the beavertail redundant in function...which is still wide enough to impede getting a good grip

I'm sure I'm way in the minority, but the Glock Gen 4 is the first Glock that fits me well enough to shoot well with.

I've a Gen 4 Glock 22 with a Lone Wolf Threaded 9mm conversion barrel, never a problem shooting .40 or suppressed 9mm

I voted HK, because the difference is awesome in all of the new models. That edged it out over the Glock 3-4 transition, which is great in most models, but not especially awesome in 9mm-- which is the most commonly purchased caliber.

I also voted H&K because the improvements in the ergonomics and overall design are the most notable between the USP and the P30 and HK45.

I own a USP45c and an HK45cT and the differences are minor. They're both solidly built, reliable .45's. The magazines are interchangeable, I haven't tried it yet, but I would bet the barrels and guide rods are interchangeable as well. There are improvements in the grip, but I still don't have an issue with my USPc grip. The controls layouts are similar and excellent from an ergonomic standpoint. The replaceable backstrap on the 45cT is nice, but that wasn't a deal breaker for me on the USP either.

Now there is a pretty significant difference between the USP9mm and the P30 which I suppose I could support. I suppose the same could be said for the full size .45 but it isn't like the USP was a dog either and both are still produced.

I suppose it says a lot when HK can take the very popular USP series and refine them to the point where they are even better yet retain all of the excellent qualities of their fore-bearers.
