Dear THR:
Of the following which is a better H&K 9mm Pistol:
- H&K USP 9
- H&K P30
- H&K VP9

Please discuss your choice.
Thanks

I've owned all 3 (the usp was a .40) and think the VP9 is the winner by a country mile.

YMMV.

Only the USP product line will require you to buy a proprietary flashlight accessory, adding to at least fifty points to the fanboy bell curve.

(I love my USPc 9x19mm) :p

Have not tried either of the others but the P30 is a perfect fir to my hand. First time I held one I knew I would have to have one.

Have tried two out of the three (USP and P30), and while both are very nicely made neither of them would be my first choice in a 9mm. Will have to check out the VP9 to see if it's a big improvement over HK's other offerings.

Geez, ask me to pick a favorite child why don't you...

I own two out of these three - I don't have a P30. I might get one while they've got this rebate going. Its trigger has never really grown on me, but neither has the USP trigger and I shoot those pretty well, which makes me question why we complain so much about triggers, but anyway. The P30 ergonomics are obviously an advance on the USP, but I'm used to those bricks and finger grooves aren't for everyone.

Now the VP9 was my intro to striker-fired pistols and I'm still not a huge fan of the class (even though I've since added a Glock 17 to the armory - I know, I know) but I do like my VP9. Really, though, no H&K pistol is a bad choice.

I'm a sucker for the P2000 though. That would be my choice.

I'm a Glock guy these days and don't see much point in paying over half as much again for a gun that can perform just as well with my abilities. But if HK is a postulate for a carry or range gun I'd reach into the back of the safe for the P2k.

Having owned and shot HKs for many years, I'm done battling with their horrid double action triggers. I know and trust the USP, but the horrible DA forces me to keep it cocked & locked. The P30S offers this feature, but it really seems like an afterthought, shoe-horning in the HK45 safety lever, yet retaining the P2000 style decocker.

With all 3 sitting in front of me, I would grab the VP9. Constant trigger pull keeps everything simple, and I wouldn't have to stop and think "does this have the uber heavy, long trigger pull" before shooting.

I said VP9, but only because I like the trigger, and price. Of hammer fired I like the P30.

The VP9 is still new to the market place. So I have reservations.

I have two of the three plus 2 P2K's.
The P30 is the best combat handgun I have and I have 34 of them now. (changes weekly) I have the light LEM.
It is fairly light, very accurate, absolutely reliable, and comfortable to shoot.

Feathers can I come over, sounds like you can use some help cleaning all those H&K's.
I absolutely agree, the VP( is a great striker fired gun, but if you are looking for a gun that you can set up the way you want it, the LEM V! with the light trigger DAO has no equal.

All are very reliable, durable, and well built.

Sights are about the same on all of them.

Triggers on USP's and the P30 are not what they could be.

The trigger on the VP9 is quite good.

VP9 by a nose.

I have both a VP9 and a P30LS in 9mm. I voted P30.

Took both shooting today and both are in my A+ list along with my classic P series SIGs and Walther PPQ,

I shoot both the VP9 and P30LS very well for me and they beg to be shot fast and excel at that.

However I feel the P30LS is a bit nicer pistol than the VP9 and also the P30LS is a softer shooter - an amazingly soft shooter.

The VP9 has a shorter reset than my P30LS but IMO my P30LS DA/SA trigger is SWEET after about 1000 rounds now and with the Wolf 10LB hammer spring.

I was stunned today how well I can shoot both my P30LS and VP9 one handed. Which I have been practicing more now that I have my Illinois CCW application in now and 97 days waiting - hope to have it real soon.

I was also shooting my P30LS DA only for a while today and was happy with the results but need more consistency. I was able to hold most of the DA only shots in a 3 inch Orange Peel target at 7 yards but a few others made the groups to about 6 inches.

IMO one can't go wrong with either.

I just got a P30S 9mm and with the replaceable grip plates and backstrap, this one fits my hand properly

el Godfather, you bastid! You cannot make me choose!:fire::neener::D All three of them are fantastic in their own way. My take on the issue is as follows.

Range gun/home defense- USPf9: It can run a steady diet of +P & +P+ and is about as bomb-proof as a handgun can be. The SA trigger is okay and with the Match option it's fantastic. There's nothing wrong the USP as a CCW gun and I have carried mine but the other two guns are easier to conceal.

CCW: P30 & VP9, dead tie! The VP9 is maybe the better option if you don't want a safety. The appropriate version of the P30 (ie the P30S) is awesome if you want to run cocked-and-locked. The grip panels of the VP9 are a bit smoother and won't chafe your skin as much as the P30.

All are equally accurate. The VP9 is probably the easiest to shoot OOTB.

I'd rather have to pick a favorite limb than a favorite among my USP, P30S and VP9!

I've tried the USP and VP9. Of the two, I'd take the VP9. The USP was just too bulky for me, even for a duty gun. The VP9 is no compact anyway. It also fits my hands much better.

I was all set to get a VP9 as the feels great in the hand and has an excellent trigger. Then I discovered a USP9c w/ nite sights & I was hooked. It felt great in my hand also and was the right size for a carry gun. I liked it so much I've got a 5" USP Expert in layaway waiting to join it.

If HK offered a wider selection in the VP9 line, such as a VP9c I might have gone that route. But they don't, at least so far, and I'm quite taken with the USP's they do offer.

The USPc is awesome! I have on in 9mm and another in .40 cal. The USPc is easier to conceal than the VP9 but not as easy to shoot IMOHO. It's a good shooter to be sure but I had to put a lot more rounds through them to get proficient whereas I hit the X-ring dead center with the very first shot out of the VP9!

From the choices given by the OP, "None of the above"

Count me as another P7 lover.....and I like the PSP better than the M8.

Me too, and I have both, and carry the "PSP", or what is called the PSP.
