H&K P30 instead of my Glocks

Ive got two Glocks in .40 S&W. A 22 and a 27. I've always shot to the left with them and now I'm thinking I just might need/want a different gun.

I like my Glocks. It they have ways felt kind of odd in my hands. I've been looking and I think the P30 might be the way for me to go.

How hard is cleaning/maintaining the HK pistols? I've been spoiled with the Glocks cause you can ignore them and they still work.

Anyone else switch from Glock to HK able to offer some insights?

Glocks shoot straight when the shooter does his job. Shooting left is mostly shooter error and a new gun isn't likely to fix that. First thing is to try to reduce shooter errors. Sometimes a better fitting gun helps but it isn't a cure.

HK's are good reliable guns that don't require a lot of maintenance but at the price they command one generally wants to take care of good care of them.

If you are shooting left you are likely doing one or more of the following:

1. pushing the pistol to the left with your trigger finger, too much finger on the trigger and not keeping the finger clear off the side of the gun.

2. Not aligning the pistol in the center of "V" formed by the thumb and fingers with barrel axis aligned directly with the arm.

3. Not pressing the trigger straight back in line with the axis of the barrel.

4. Tightening gripping fingers during trigger squeeze.

5. Anticipating recoil.

Yeah I know that it's a shooter problem, but as much as I want to love my Glocks they are not as comfortable for me too shoot as I would like.

Anyone gone from Glock to HK and regret it?

There's an old saying in gun lore that goes something like, "Beware the man with only one gun, he likely knows how to use it".

Every gun I've ever fired felt new, different, odd, and etc if I'd never fired that particular platform before. With time, proper technique and a lot of bullets downrange I never had any gun continue to feel that way. Actually the same type thing can be said for a new toothbrush. Generally, given time and usage, comfort will increase. Not always, but it always has for me and everybody I've instructed over the years to a very large degree.

I tell any new gun owner they need to fire approximately 300 rounds before they begin to be "one with the gun". Of course that's a generalization and as such is only a guide. But the idea is you have to shoot 'em a lot I think to get to the truly competent stage.

I know some people feel otherwise and that's great, but if you are strong enough to hold the gun, can align the sights, pull the trigger and make it go boom, it's a proper fit for you. Everything after that is practice, practice practice.

I have had both Glocks and the H&K. Glocks are great guns but just were not comfortable to me as well. I loved the feel of the P30. With the customizable grip it will fit almost any hand, however the one thing I could not master after leaving glock was the DA/SA trigger after all the training I had done with the Glocks. The P30 was great for me for target shooting where you could should SA, but when I was doing more advanced training going from the DA shot to the SA shot would always get me in the stressful situations= not good. I realize this was just a training issue and I could eventually train it away but did not really want to so I got an M&P 9mm pro. It fits my hand and feels better than the H&K which is really saying something because I loved the P30's feel. The M&P is a DAO like the Glocks.

I have HKs and Glocks. Don't have a P30 but have fired one and believe it is the best 9mm/40 on the market bar none. For concealed carry though I prefer the HK P2000sk. I feel HK makes the highest quality production guns in the world. Is the quality high enough to justify the increased cost compared to a glock? Probably not for most. And in reality they are both as close to 100% reliable as is currently possible for an auto handgun. However, what gen are your glocks? The adjustable back straps of Gen4s has dramatically improved their ergonomics. Shooting to the left however is probably not about the guns.

i have a hk p30s in 40. love it to death. super accurate, not a single malfunction to date.excellent design and super ergonomics. i got the v3s version so i can go cocked and locked like a 1911. i'm not a double action fan.

my old lady has a hk with the LEM trigger. personally i hate the trigger. way too heavy. i like mine triggers nice and crisp.

maintenance is the same as a glock. gun comes apart similar to a bushing-less 1911

Hk's are super easy to maintain. You can literally have it in pieces in under 3 seconds. The finish is very tough as well.

My P30 is my favorite gun. My wife gave it to me as a wedding gift.

Maybe I should just be thinking about adding a P30 to my collection instead of replacing my glocks. The gun shop closest to me doesn't have any P30's to rent, but they do have some USP's. Another one further away has a P30 for rent.

I need to take a class or get with an instructor and figure out what is wrong with my grip/technique for shooting.

Truthfully if you don't LOVE you Glocks, and you do LOVE the HK then more than likely you will shoot the HK better. Maybe not perfect as it sounds like you are having some shooter error, but at some point, a good part of shooting is mental and if you like the way something looks or feels you are more likely to do well with it. Don't look past an FNX they are similar to the HK but they are great. JMHO.
