Is this pistol worth the $1400 or so price?

Out of all the models, (P7M13, P7M7, P7K3, P7M10, P7M8, P7, PSP) is there one that stands above the rest for any particular reason?

Do any of them have threaded barrels? I can't even see the barrel on any of them, so I guess that is a "no," but I wanted to make sure.

Was the original PSP designed for 9mm?

Why did H&K discontinue this line of pistols?

Are there quite a few replacement parts available still?

Are they worth $1400? Well they are very well designed sturdy weapons, with the traditional solid craftsmanship of germany. Depends on how much you think that's worth I suppose.

Far as the models go they all have a niche, I don't think one really stands out over the rest as a superior weapon.

If you get an aftermarket barrel, which are not the most common of creatures of P7's, you can have it threaded. They're out there, just not real common.

Far as I know the PSP was designed for 9mm.

H&K most likely discontinued them do the large amounts of manual labor it took to fit and finish the weapons compared to the other pistols they were manufacturing.

I wouldn't say there's a ton of replacement parts out there, but it's not to bad to find parts. You may have to wait a bit to get it shipped to you, but they're out there.

All said, I love mine, and it's one of my favorite pistols.

This is a good site for P7 answers.

Threaded barrels are available at around $500.
P7M7 is a new one on me, not sure what that is, or if available.
All P7 models are similar with minor tweeks. K3 is the odd one, rare and expensive.
P7 made in 9mm, .40, .45(not avail.), .380, .32, .22. Most are 9mm
HK stoped due to high cost in manufacturing. Thats why a NIB is $1500.
M10 made for U.S. police market in .40, 10 rounds.
One of the more popular is the M13, 9mm, 13 rounds.
All are very easy shooters, very accurate, reliable, safe in that the gun de-cocks itself by easing up on the handle...cocks itself when gripped.

I wouldn't pay that, but there are many who would.

The P7 was originally designed as a 9mm. Yes, there are versions with threaded barrels, but I've never seen one, and have no idea as to availability.

I've heard that HK claims that they stopped making the P7 because it was too cost-intensive to manufacture, and they didn't sell enough of them.

Absolutely 1 of the best guns there is. I prefer the P7M13 myself.

In answer to your question. If you can't find one for any cheaper, and you can, then jump on it. They are just getting more expensive. The magazines are anywhere from 70-100 each depending on where you get them, if you can get them.

H&K doesn't have a great reputation for customer service. That is a drawback.

Even though the handgun is expensive, and the mags are expensive, I purchased one new. Then I found another one used for a lot less than the new one, and in as good condition.

I purchased extra parts, and as many magazines as I could afford. I think the gun is worth it.

You can still get police refurbs for around $900, and I considered that a fair price when I picked one up last year.

Mine's a PSP (9mm single-stack w/heel magazine release). It's got wonderful ergonomics, it's size makes it easy to conceal, and it carries easily in a good holster. It's extremely accurate and has almost no muzzle-flip. Mine's been 100% with factory ammo, 99% with cheap reloads. Like all HKs, they're made of some seriously thick and heavy steel, so I doubt I'll ever break it.

NIB M8/13s are impossible to find around here, but even lightly used ones run around $1250. If having a brand-new one is a priority, I'd think $1400 is a fair price.

I bought and sold four P7M8's and one PSP over about two years. I thoroughly got the P7 "bug" out of my system in that time. The least expensive gun I bought ran me $750. The most expensive was almost NIB and ran me $1000, with a holster and several extra mags.

From a mechanical standpoint, the guns are neat. From a practical standpoint, I realized that I shot my $175 Makarov and my $350 CZ-75 better then I shot the P7. I never could get used to the squeeze cock feature and the guns always pointed low in my hand. I was actually slower with the first shot out of a P7 than with any other gun I shoot.

The final staw for me was when we realized that my wife couldn't shoot the P7 with only her left hand. She just wasn't strong enough to cock it with that hand. She could do it with both hands, and barely with just her right hand, but not at all with just her left. Since the pistol was intended to be a defensive gun for both of us, out it went.

Now, lot's of people love the P7. I thought I did too, but it was just a fling.

I personally think the P7M8 or PSP are the best of what these guns were meant to be. I currently own a P7M8 and a P7M13.

They are thin, easy to carry, laser accurate, excellent triggers and fast, fast, fast on target and for reloads. Hell if you run out of ammo just aim your magazine at the target and hit the release it is likely to knock them unconscious when that $50 piece of hand forged, by blind virgins, in Tibet steel hits them. :D

The biggest drawback to the gun is its price bar none. Gun is expensive, mags are expensive, hell I think I have to send HK $1.75 in royalties just for holding mine. But other then that they are a marvel and work extremely well.

The M13 is a bit too large, as is the M10. The K3 has an issue with the piston going bad and there are NO replacement parts for this. The M7 was a .45 caliber prototype and if you can find one for $1400 I will offer you $2500 for it right now. :scrutiny:

Basically these guns shine in 9mm and in single stack.

My two cents and as we all know it ain't worth much but I hope it helps.

Umm don't think of the second picture as $1400 worth of gun as much as $500 dollars worth of magazines, or a New CZ SP01 or a Pre owned SIG or.......... I just take heart that each and every magazine is hand forged by a man named Hans who lives in the Tibetan mountains. He makes them out of pure unobtanium and each one was blessed by blind, naked, virgins. That's what I tell myself anyway....and you folks Bitc%#D and moaned about $50 and $60 Glock 17 round magaznes during the ban. These are 8 shot magazines and still ain't cheap. :D

Worth it??? Probably. I didn't pay quite that much for my new P7M8 that I had hard chromed back in II (1988 for those that don't speak HK date code :D ) and find it the nicest handgun I've ever shot
