H&K USP Compact vs. P2000

I have gotten the urge to purchase a H&K handgun. This will be my first, so I am a little green about the differences between each model. I am looking at the USP Compact and the P2000...both in .40 S&W. What are the big differences between the two. On paper, they both seem fairly even. Which model is generally more accurate? Which one has a better trigger? In other words, what are the pros's and con's of each model when comparing the two. All info. will be appreciated.

I have a P2000. It is a newer gun then the USPc. The P2000 gun has a more contoured slide then the USPc. Both are as accurate as the user.

The P2000 has interchangeable backstraps. It is also completely ambidextrous where the USPc is not.

I personally feel the grip is more comfy on the P2000.

Both use the same magazines.

Really, get the one that fits you best. Both are fine firearms & will serve you well. If it were me, I'd get the P2000 w/ LEM....but that's just me

To me, the P2K has better ergonomics than the USPc but your hand is different than mine. I also feel that the P2K has a smoother DA trigger and a slightly smoother SA trigger than the USPc.

Pros:

1. They're HK
2. They're reliable, it's a given
3. Quality of workmanship
4. Looks good
5. Accurate. How good are you?
6. they're reliable!

Cons:

• Not for the cheap schmucks.. err.. the frugals

I like my P2000 LEM 40, apparently so is my dad. He took mine

The P2000 is being replaced by a newer version the P30 .Don't know when it will be available . BTW my P7 M10 is no bigger than the P2000 , only heavier !!

I don't think it's replacing the P2K. I think the P30 is the .45 ACP version as the P2K only comes in 9mm, .40 S&W and .357 SIG.

If you want cock and lock, get the USP Compact.

I THINK the P2000 has an industry standard light rail but I'm not sure.

i tried both and went with the P2000 - nice to have adjustable grips(I am a little picky about the way a gun feels in my hand) also i would go with the LEM trigger - (i dont care for the decker version of the P2000) - Nothing wrong with the USP C - i have carried HKs for awhile now and find them all to be great guns - Probably my most dependable duty gun was a full size USP in .40 - if i was looking for a daily carry gun for duty I would go with the USP - for concealed carry the P2000 is great!! I used a P2000 in 9mm for about a year as my primary off-duty carry gun and I found it to be an perfect choice - also a plus the mags interchange with the usp c so there are plent of those around as well - make sure when you look at the P2000 you try all the different grips - it will make a difference!

There are a few main differences between a USPc and a P2000. The USPcompact can be carried in condition 1 (cocked and locked) or DA/SA. The P2000 can be carried in only DA/SA. Both platforms come with an option in LEM.

That's where the USPc has the advantage to the P2000 in my opinion. Everything else favors the P2000. The P2000 is more contoured, has a better SA trigger (the DA still sucks ) and lastly has a better feeling grip than the blockier USP.

The USP is a great gun, but for carry I think the P2000 has more advantages.

I'll probably pickup a USP compact today. I already have a 9mm, but I've been wanted a .40 for a while now. My dad has a P2000 in 9mm with the LEM trigger and I'd probably go with that if I could find one simply b/c of the LEM trigger and the changeable backstraps. I positively will not buy one of the P2000s with the decocker at the rear of the slide. I feel that is ill concieved at best. I don't like to have any part of my hand obstructing that slide with a round in the chamber. When I've handled the decocker P2000s at the shop, I found that while pressing that decocker lever, my index finger wanted to go inside the triggerguard. I don't like it. Train with it enough and I'm sure it's not a problem, but I still don't like it.

I have a USPc - I went back and forth and went w/ that over the P2000 because I wanted to keep it cocked and locked...

Both guns are much better than other names, because it is HK!
I own USPc40 and I tried P2000 9 mm. What can I tell you different than you can read from this forum? Yes, both of them have pros and cons.
If you ask me…. I am waiting for newest one – P30
I think it should be even better than P2000

The P30 will not be avilable in .45!!!!

It will be a 9mm / .40 S&W gun. The new .45 will be the HK45 and HK45c.

P2000 or P30....newer engineering. Stay away from the LEM trigger. Great in theory/shooting, but, be prepared to spend big bucks to get the trigger group worked on in the event of a malfunction.

I love my usp40c. That said, I have tried the P2000 witht the LEM and it was very nice. Also as has been mentioned, the P2000 has the industry standard light rail on it vs. the proprietary mount of the uspc. If you decide to get a DA/SA pistol and want to try the LEM--CDNN has the parts kit to do the transition for $49.00. It's an easy pistol to work on and will likely never wear out in your life time.
