I finally ran across some .38 S&W, and put a few cyl's through an H&R revolver that I've had for almost nine years (!) and never shot.

(most guns don't go nine days)

Anyway, the "upshot" of all this is that the little gun's point of impact is way higher than the point of aim.

The first few shots, my buddy and I were going for the top 2 bulls on a 5 bullseye target. "Hey James, where are the holes on the paper?" Turns out that at fifteen feet (not yards... feet), the point of impact ended up being 8-10" above the point of aim.

Yup. 8-10" high @ 15 feet.

Now, in aiming the gun, I tried to put the top of the front sight centered in the little, shallow groove in the top of the frame that serves as a rear sight on this gun, and hold that tiny part of visible front sight over where I would have liked the bullet to hit. This is how I've aimed every other gun I've shot, and it always seemed to work... until yesterday. :banghead:

Seems to me if the front sight was taller, it'd bring the point of impact close enough that I could hit a sleeping dog from ten feet away. Jeez!

The front sight appears to be a thin metal blade pressed into a slot in the top of the barrel. Is this adjustable? I hope to heck it is!

I'd really like to be able to make this little gun shoot reasonably well, because it's a) a gift from my dad, b) pretty old, and c) in a lot nicer cosmetic shape than it looks like in the pics. I jacked the brightness and stuff around to try to show details; it picked up every minute blem in the bluing... it looks better in real life.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

No, it is not adjustable.

Your only recourse would be to have a gunsmith make a taller blade and solder it in the groove.

Or just learn to aim lower.

Yeah, looking at it, I was thinking that the blade looks removable.

I s'pose I could just keep the OG piece... since the gun is, well, made somewhere between 1904 and WWII. So, it's at least seventy years old.

Now, how to remove that original sight - without trauma to the gun!
