Is it safe to fire slugs from my H&R Pardner Pump Walnut shotgun? Or do you have to have a rifled barrel to shoot slugs???

A rifled barrel is not needed.

You can shoot rifled slugs out of a smoothbore barrel as this is what they are for exclusively.. However, Sabot slugs are not recommended.

I was told you couldn't shoot rifled slugs through a smoothbore either by some noob at a major national sporting goods chain...

Your shotgun will handle the foster type slugs just fine.Just try some different brands to see which shoot best in your gun.An added bonus,because it's a smoothbore, the standard 2 3/4 foster slugs sell for about one third of the price of the sabot slugs used in rifled barrels.
