H&R shotguns?

The H&R/NEF Pardner pump is made in China by Norinco. It's basically a copy of the Remington but the barrels do not interchange. Dicks recently had it on sale for $160.

$240 seems a little high for something made over seas and then imported. You could almost get a remington 870 express for that much or a mossberg 500.

+1 on the maverick. I'm slogging twords my 2000th trouble free round in my maverick. $$$ for $$$ its pretty hard to beat!

The thing I'd worry about with chinese stuff is getting it worked on in the future. Mossbergs are everywhere and Mavericks are their cheaper cousins, sort of the "express" of the Mossberg line.

The Remington Express, I shoot left handed and just prefer the ergos of the Mossbergs. The tang safety is much easier to use for me and the slide button is in a natural location. I also like the fact that the shell elevator isn't in the way of reloading. The Express also tends to turn to rust before your eyes down here in the duck marsh, big time rust magnet. I haven't had that problem with my Mossberg which is camo finished or my Winchester which I've waxed and take care of somewhat obsessively because it's a blued/wood gun. That Mossberg is one tough firearm. I've had it about 18 years and the Winchester (an auto) about 20. Neither gun broke the bank or I wouldn't have bought it, LOL. I'm a cheap SOB.

The $240 price is high but is because of the supply and demand right now. More of these shotguns will be imported into the US in a couple of months and the price will back to normal.

The Pardner Pump is an excellent shotgun. Check the internet for reviews on them. There is plenty info out there. Also check Norinco 982 basically the same shotgun and both made by Norinco.

Here is a good thread with plenty of pictures:

There is no problem with having work done on them. They are just like an 870 and 870 parts will fit. The 870 & Pardner Pump are very simple designed shotguns and most work can be done by the owner. You rarely ever see a Pardner having problems. They are built like a tank.

H&R is made in China... but my single shot pardner says made in Massachusetts. Go figure.

For $240, I would go with the Mossberg security 8 shot or the field combo with 2 barrels.

The single shot design is well over 100 years and going. I don't know if H&R has a design/R&D department. They just badged this thing as H&R and brought it in. Not to bash the gun, if it's a good gun, it's a good gun. I've never handled one so any comments from me were just based on its country of origin. I have a Spartan SxS that's fantastic, same deal, built in Russia, badged by Remington. If Remington was to buld a SxS, it'd probably be $3K or more. I'd have bought the gun if it was Baikal branded, no biggy.

I'd still get a Mossy or Maverick, though, for that money. Personal preference, but I like the Mossbergs for their ergos and they're super shotguns and don't break the bank.

My best shotgun is my Mossberg 500A Security 8 shot 20" open cylinder that I paid $200 for a decade ago and it's still going strong and not only is it my HD gun, it can break clays with the best of them fancy guns out there.

With the current state of job security in USA right now, I am not inclined to buy anything made in China if I can avoid it.
That said, the H&R pump gun is decent buy for the money.
The original, made in America Remington, even the Express versions, are better buys that will also hold more of their value.

Wholesale trade in value of a Remeington gun, $200-$400
Value on an H&R, even in good shape and in the original box, $75-$125
