H+R Topper M488

I was given a topper R+H m488. Have never shot it. Have had it for years and I doubt it was fired for many years prior to that. It's stock is good, needs to be refinished. the barrel and chamber are rusted but not majorly so. I'm used to cleaning my semi auto pistols, but not rifles. Metal parts clean up fairly well. I have little knowledge of rifles or of refinsishing guns but I want to take this one as a learning project and dismatle it totally and refurbish it. For fun, and also to get it to be safe and functional. Where do I start? Are parts available should I need them? How do I clean the barrel? etc. Any ideas will be appreciated.

I have no idea what type of weapon that is but for my surplus military rifles I have used these couple of methods with great success... The Bore cleaner works awesome, you won't believe how much gunk comes out afterwards! As for the stock, I generally use "easy-off" oven cleaner and a gentle brushing and follow up with a light sanding to "De-Whisker" any raised wood particles and then several coats of Tung oil...

thanks, Salvo 66. Appreciate your help. Got it pretty much dissasmbled. Should make a fun refinishing project. Not a glorious gun but if I get it to shoot right it should be fun and an addition to my gun collection.
