Please correct if I'm wrong, but on a 1911 if you have a decocked hammer on a live round, you can still just pull the trigger for it to fire. The only difference being that it would be double action and any shot afterward would be single action.

You are incorrect.

A true Browning design 1911 is a single action pistol and the trigger only does one thing which is release the hammer. The 1911's made by Colt and most other clones are of this type.

There are a few "1911 style" pistols that have a double action system. Some of this type are made by Para Ordinance like their LDA system.
