I have long fingers and hate the A2 grip. I desire a longer reach to the trigger. I also hate finger grooves. What's my best option? I've had the Hogue and the basic Ergo, and while the Ergo is slightly better, it just aint right. Do I need a Magpul or what?

If you hate finger grooves, the biggest options will be the TangoDown Battlegrip model BG-17 (not the more common BG-16 that is fairly small), which is available from Midway USA, and the Magpul MIAD with the largest straps installed. Either one of those is a good option for people with hands from L on up. The Magpul MOE is also decent but won't be quite as big, and therefore not as long a reach, as those two.

The Ergo "deluxe tactical" is a huge grip but it has some finger grooves, as do most that I can think of.

The ergo grip tactical deluxe is what i got. It is similar to the basic, but it's finger grooves are not as defined, it has a much more aggressive and tactile texture, as well as a big ol fat body that comfortably fills the hand. It will also keep you from wanting to double joint the trigger. I got mine for $26 and it Has been a great investment. It also reduces fatigue quite a bit due to the extra large body. It's almost like they molded the grip with a silver dollar sized sphere in it. Kinda feels like you're grabbing a rubberized eight ball shift knob on joe dirt's hemi.

I've got an eight-ball shift knob in my car, so you're speaking my language there!

As far as the 1911 grip goes, I love the feel of the pistol, but the trigger reach is of equal concern on the rifle, and I don't know if that grip would address it as well as the Ergo or MIAD, though it is cool.

The MagPul MIAD is nice. Same basic setup as the MOE, but interchangable back and fore straps to fill the hand more if you want.

grip

Big hands also. No experience with new styles buy all my -15s and -10s have A-1 grips. no finger grooves and they are a bit bigger. Hard to find though.

Tapco offers an M16 vesion of the SAW machinegun grip.
Not pretty but it is hand filling without being obscene.

Keep this in mind when selecting and modifying grips. You should be able to have your thumb on the safety and your index finger on the register at all times(The dust cover in the open position). If you can not then your grip is to big.

The new Magpul K and Troy "AK" are about the smallest. A1 is next; A2, TD BG16, then MOE, MIAD, then up to the MOE +, Stark, etc.

In the day, if it was too small, it got taped up with athletic grip tape. These days epoxy modeling compound is one choice, and there's others.

My 2 cents, from smallest to largest and without most of them in front of me:

Troy
A1
A2
Magpul K
TangoDown BG16
Hogue
Ergo standard / Magpul MOE approximate tie (Ergo is longer front to back, MOE is wider)
Not sure but I believe the MOE+ is the same size as standard MOE, just with rubber covering
ATI Strikeforce
TangoDown BG17 / US Palm SCAR/AR grip (same thing)
TAPCO SAW style grip
Magpul MIAD with largest inserts installed
Ergo deluxe tactical
Stark
abominable extension for NBA players

Another option would be the "Up-Tight Grip" from Tubb.

I replaced the A2 with an Ergo Deluxe, but didn't like the bumpy, knob thingy in the mid-section. Swapped it out for the standard Ergo (which was already riding on the AK as well) and I'm done.

I wear XL+ gloves.
