I'm a new resident of Oregon. Can any fellow Oregonians tell me what the requirements are for the purchase and/or sale of handguns in this state. I'm a refugee from California, so I'm used to a lot of red tape and waiting times.

I live in Jackson County if that makes any difference.

Thanks in advance for any info.

I have made nearly two dozen handgun/firearm purchases this year in Oregon and have only waited for more than 5 minutes from the time I pick it out to the time I own it twice. Once I was put on a 24 hour hold because of a person with a similar name having a criminal record (my first purchase in Oregon) and one other time when the states computers were down for like 20 minutes.

You pick it out, fill out the paperwork, get fingerprinted and then they run your check all in a course of a few minutes. Then, if you are legal, you can take your purchase home.

Walk into the store, find the gun you want, hand them your driver's license and fill out the form (4473?) Do your thumbprints while they are waiting on the phone doing the instant background check (usually just takes a minute or two), then pay for it and take it home.
At my last purchase a guy was talking with the employees about how to get a gun with the felony he had on his record from a while back :scrutiny: I think as long as it's not a violent crime you'll pass the check.
