Handgun purchases reported to ATF?

I read somewhere that purchasing X number of handguns in a certain window of time or on the same form is cause for the FFL dealer to report it to the ATF.

Is there any truth to this?

2 or more handguns in a 5 day time period (from the same dealer) results in a multiple purchase form faxed to the ATF and mailed to the local police department.

Then it would be "correct" to assume that states that do not allow more than one handgun purchase in a 30 day period have reportage to ATF; ie-California. Correct/incorrect?

Sorry, just wanted to know if states like California that limit one handgun purchase per 30 days are exempt from reporting purchases to the ATF or if there are exceptions. I did not see any mention of the ATF on CA's DOJ (Dept. of Justice) website.

Scrat, I'm too old and broke to try to beat any system...lol. I was just curious. I was not knowledgable of the ATF issue. Anyway, disregard the question. I found my answer.

Last year, I bought multiple handguns at the same time in CA.
The CA FFL dealer did report it. BATFE did not contact me about it.

In CA...
The 1 in 30 day handgun wait is only for handguns sold out of a FFL dealer's inventory. Private party transfers and consignment sales are exempt from the 1 in 30 day wait. Also, when purchasing a C&R handgun, a 03-FFL + COE exempts you from the 1 in 30 day wait and the 10 day waiting period.
