I finally handled one yesterday and although it felt good the magazine release is a PITA. It was inconsistent on when it released when pushing either side in and the magazine did not pop out 50% of the time.
I was really excited about the Solo until I felt that mag release. Its okay but I'm going to wait until I find one that is no more than $600 to even consider buying it. Its to bad since there are not many SA single stack 9mms with thumb safeties out there.
This was exactly my experience yesterday as well. They had one for sale for $629, but the mag release was bad. It took a lot of force to push, then it would break free. The gun seemed to be well finished and didn't feel cheap to me. The magazine felt very cheap though.
Ultimately, I bought a Kahr PM9 yesterday instead of the Solo.
My Kimber Ultra Carry (Series I) that I've owned for several years has been an outstanding pistol regarding reliability and accuracy.
In spite of my very high regard for Kahrs, I have a P40, PM9, P45 & CW9, I will probably purchase a Kimber Solo as well after initial bugs, if any, are resolved.
The only problem I see that might prevent me from buying the Solo is the unnecessary safety. I wonder if extended magazines will become available as well? I use the 8rders as backups with my Kahr. I really like that the gun is nicely melted like that. It reminds me of the old COP .357 derringers in that respect. That was one of the nicest things about that gun as well.
