The Walker arrived from Midway a short time ago and I shot a quick pic of it - after some extensive fondling of course

I can find no fault with it- everything seems to function as designed and the fit/finish is excellent.

I don't have a holster for it yet, but I'm going to get one like I have for my dragoon (shown in the pic) - from Dixie - they are very nice and well made.

Going to shoot it tomorrow :D

Well happy Birthday, O.S.O.K.

Nice gun.

However... if you're gonna carry that thing in a holster, you might ought'a order a second one.

You know, to balance you out, so you don't develop a permanent lean, or end up walking around in circles? :p:D;)

It looks really really nice O.S.O.K.!

Have you tried to fit #11 percussion caps on it yet?

I tried #11s on the nipples that came on mine and had to replace the nipples with another set (which I also got from the Cabela's bargain cave for just $4.99 for the set of six, BTW). The #11s fit just fine on the replacement set.

I think #10s would fit the original set, but I can't find any available around here.

I've read before on internet forums that Uberti nipples require #10s most of the time.

Ron

P.S. I stay away from holstering my blued handguns to eliminate holster wear.

Thanks

I have a nice dragoon that is only 1/2 lb. lighter than the walker, so if I put em both on I'll only lean a little to the walker side :D

As to the caps, no I haven't tried any yet but my Uberti dragoon takes #11's without a problem. I have #10's though should I need em.

Now you need a horse to put the holster on, like they did way back when. However, seeing as you are from Texas, you either have one, or at least an F250, Ram, etc... to carry it.

The Doc is out now.

Glad you are happy with your puchase. The Walker and it's descendants are interesting guns!
Just received a second model Dragoon (Uberti) from Dixie Gun Works today. Unfortunatly, the lockwork is somehow frozen and the hammer won't fall right half the time, so it's gotta go back for replacement. But if the replacement is as good (minus the seizing parts, of course) it should be a fine weapon, and the hammer on these lock back and the cylinder locks when the hammer reaches the end of it's cut in the frame, as I hear it should. Oh, well, another waiting game....:D

That's great - you will enjoy it I am sure. I really like mine. So far I have (in order of historical appearance) the Uberti Walker, a Uberti 3rd Model Dragoon, a Pietta 58 Remington and two Pietta 1860's - one standard and one snubby.

Addictive....

Happy Birthday, OSOK! I like that Walker, cool stuff.. I never shot one or seen one in person, but it looks HUGE!, hope you enjoy blasting it. I have to post some pics of mine too, I just picked up another ROA, 5.5- but in blued.

That's a beauty! Happy Birthday. I hope you enjoy shooting it. Let us know how you do with it.

Great choice. Great gun.
When I saw the Walker for the first time I found it kind of an overkill revolver with a too long barrel and too small grips.
But now my views have changed.
Think it's the best looking revolver ever made. Love all open top designs but the Walker overall lines are just perfect, even better than an 1851 or 1860 which seeme a bit small now... Looks great from any angle and it's great fun to shoot too.
Enjoy O.S.O.K!

range/shooting results

Well was able to get out and shoot it some today - what a blast!

I couldn't help myself and loaded 60 grains of Pyrodex P with a lubed wad and .457" ball - barely cut a ring, so the cylinders are generous. They can hold probably close to 70 grains of Pyrodex too! Not that I'm planning on loading that much, but the balls seated about 1/4" below the cylinder ends.

Shooting was off-hand at 40 meters. First shots were to see where it was printing - about 12" high but spot on for windage. After that, I was taking shots at clay pidgeons - I would estimate that I was holding about 8" groups - shooting all around the edges of the pidgeons and hitting them 1 out of 4 shots.

I was with a couple of other guys and to one of them, this was all a brand new experience and he could hardly beleive the sight - the smoke and boom of the heavy loads was pretty amusing.

I did the loading lever catch modification yesterday, and it held the lever up for the first 12 shots, then it started dropping on some of them - I've worked on it a little more, increasing the tension by slightly bending it. I also peened the dovetail that it mounts in as it was loose and rocking back and forth slightly. Should work just fine with more sedate 50 grain loads :D

All in all I am really pleased with it - its a blast to shoot and everything came apart and went back together smoothly.

Looking forward to shooting it again and seeing what different loads do for accuracy.

ETA - I bet when Capt. Walker first unleashed these on the indians and mexicans they must have been totally overwhelmed - after all, these were really reapeating hand-rifles that had the power to take a horse down. From what I read, they carried two or more of them - a true force-multiplier!
