I started this thread to get input on SP101s.

Yesterday, I walked into my local gun dealer (closest one to home) on a completely different matter. There in the case was a pristine 2.25" SP101 in .357. I asked if I could look at it. Very clean, fairly smooth trigger (for a Ruger that doesn't look like it has been shot much), good lockup ...

Then I saw the price. On consignment for $250! So for $270, taxes and NICS included, this little baby followed me home! Happydance! Only downside is I'm tied up all weekend, so it'll be next week before I can get to the range.

Now head on over to Ruger and pick up a set of these. I used to have them on my SP until I put on Crimson Trace LaserGrips.

I hate you so much right now. I want one, but I think my FFL will die to see another purchase (and I don't have the money)

Best little compact .357 Magnum snubby there is, IMNSHO, at least for those who mean to actually carry and shoot .357 Magnum rather than .38 Special, anyway.
Good job!

Thanks for the tips on the grip inserts. I'm seriously considering them, as well as a set of Eagle grips. What do you all think of Crimson Trace? I've wondered if laser grips would be a good addition to a defensive gun with such a short sight radius. Comments?

I got an Sp101 in .357 Magnum with 3" barrel about a month and a half ago. It was $330 out the door very lightly used. Apparently the previous owner bought it new, fired a cylinder and decided .357 was a bit much. I'm more than happy to benefit from their decision.

Nod

Best snubbie out there, then again what do I know :D

I have mine in the .357 / 3 1/8" bbl flavour, although I usually carry/shoot .38spl's out of it. But it really is quite shootable in a lengthy range session with a moderate power .357 load (Remington Golden Sabre?). Its a solid revolver.

You just have to shoot it enough to smooth out the trigger :D

Well mine must be better, 'cause it cost a hundred bucks more. ;)

Lots of people like the stock grips just fine, but after my first time shooting full-power .357s I got the Hogue Monogrip and like it a lot. Then for carry I got the Clipdraw and like that too.

Enjoy!

After I got accustomed to the stock grips, I bought a Pachmayr Compac grip for carry because it is a little smaller and less sticky.

After shooting some 125s through the gun, I decided the Pachys were better for recoil as well, and I kept those on the gun...for awhile.

Then I discovered laser grips, and I'll never go back. CTCs are on my SP-101 and, even though I suck at shooting snubbies, I can hit what I aim at with the laser grips. It also makes dry-fire practice a thousand times more productive. Gotta love the laser.

Fantastic deal. Fantastic firearm. The trigger really smooths out with use.

Here is ours. Started out as Sheslingers primary but she gravitated towards semi autos while I gravitated towards wheelies so I slapped some new grips on her and made her mine.

Congratulations. Great gun at a very nice price. I got a similar deal a couple years ago. A fellow inherited a 2.25" SP101 from his father-in-law, but since he had a similar size model 60 he sold the Ruger. He got some unexpected cash, I got a great deal.

I have two sets of Hogue grips. I put the rubber grip on when I am carrying in a chest pack while bicycling. Most of the time I use a cocobolo grip which I picked up inexpensively at the Hogue auction site. The grips are listed as factory seconds, but I have never been able to find a flaw in any of the ones I have purchased.
