As Christmas time rolls around I am narrowing my choices on what to get. I have been oogling the new TRP from Springfield but had previously been set on the Springfield loaded stainless px9151L.

The TRP PC9107LP is sweet but is it really worth the extra $500? I can get a Loaded for about $800 and and the TRP for $1350.

Would I really be that much happier with the TRP? This would be an addition carry gun. Or would I be satisfied with the Loaded?

I just can't figure it out! I need pro's and con's for both.

Things I like about both:

Both have fully supported barrel's (so I've read elsewhere)
Both come in stainless...a must for me.
Both have lowered and flared ejection ports

TRP-
has checkered front strap (not that big of a deal to me)

Match barrel-nice but not required

Mag well-I might have put one in anyhow in the other model but nice not required.

Tuned trigger, nice but I don't need glass smooth trigger on my carry machine. I have a colt gold cup already, and mainly carry an XD-45 with an UGLY trigger.

Tritium sites-NICE :) but I've never had them before so I am not sure if I really need them?

Fit and finish is supposed to be a world of difference, but I haven't shot both so how am I supposed to know?!

Loaded-

Low profile carry sights

flared mag well but not an add on-this would allow me to use the CM 10rounders that would be a plus, can't do that now with the mag well I've got on my colt.

Stainless, a plus, I think this is one PRETTY gun! I'm a sucker for looks!

Good base line starter gun. I could add my goodies later.

I am pretty stumped. It's not really about the money but about the satisfaction for the money.

I am sure that I would love both but I'd like to hear from those who own either the pro's and con's.

Please post!!!

and for what it's worth, I've already been to the springer thread on m1911.org and read their reviews found here:

As I understand it, the TRP is made & assembled here in the US w/ a better grade of parts and a greater attention to detail during assembly. Is it worth the $$... Yuppers ;)

I like my loaded (blued) quite a lot. I will say though, I really wish i would have bought a TRP. I can't say if it really that much better, but I know that every time I handle one, I get mad at myself for not buying one. The fit is amazing on everyone I have touched, trigger too. My loaded pistol was a great deal at $500 with the novak night sights, so I don't regret the purchase, but there are things I wish it had that the TRP does.

Get a Springfield Custom Carry. It's a Custom Shop gun, like the Springfield Professional, but much more affordable. Build quality is the same for the two models. The internals are the same too. Best of all is the price. You can get a CC for $1500, whereas the Pro goes for $2200.

The only negative is that you won't be getting it in time for Christmas. The Custom Shop gave me a delivery estimate of six months. I don't care though. My new fiancee is buying it for me for a combined birthday/Christmas/engagement present. When I get it I will have an heirloom quality firearm.

The TRP is a little over priced when compared to a RRA or Les Baer. Nice 1911 don't get me wrong just a little on the high side. Great suggestion by kamagong on the SA Custom Carry.

For those above, I already own a Colt Gold Cup. The TRP is not everything that I wanted, I really want a nice functional gun, but also an eye grabber too. I prefer gloss stainless.

I have not seen a custom carry at all (can't find any pictures). Price is a bit high 1600 from the springfields website, went and took a look at the one at Sportsmans Warehouse again today...had some handling marks on it :( they said they would drop the price another 5%. It'll be a carry piece...it's doable but damn! Scatches!!! I could order another one but for 5% I think I'd rather have it pristine. So for an ordered one would be $1359, one in the display case is $1291. The scratches are on the bottom of the magwell from the mags, and one 1/2 scratch on the very top of the slide.

Is this doable or should I look elsewhere?

TRP is way better in fit and finish compared to the loaded series. 100% American made and given the attention to detail it deserves to set it above the rest in the $1500 price range for a middle class 1911.

I'm not surprised that you haven't seen it. It's a custom pistol, and has to be ordered directly from the Custom Shop. It's not something that a gun shop can just order from a distributor.

Oops...I just realized that you want a stainless gun. The CC is only available in carbon steel. Still, you really should consider it.
