This pistol is known for a "bashing lock" and one remedy is modifying the cock to obtain a better geometry ; the cock has been cut, bent and welded and now it works
If anyone could insert pics of a normal HP pistol lock, the comparison would be more effective.
And there are always a couple or three on Gunbroker for reasonable prices.
I sold the pair I had to ............................ are you ready.......................an MP...................go figure. He wanted to replicate the MPC Crest in real life
Some experts would explain better than me but basically, the problem is that the Pedersoli replica presents an incorrect flint / frizzen angle ; PD seems to argue that it is identical to the original pistol (may be true ?) but the result is that, at best the flint is destroyed within 4-5 ignition and at worst the pistol will be a wallhanger.
In my experience during a range session with a new flint I would be able to shoot 2-3 balls with many difficulties and a lot of exasperation due to lack of correct sparks and ignition.
A definitive option (proposed and explained on forums ) is to modify the angle of the cock : saw the front arc, bend it to modify the angle, and weld .
The result is that the geometry of the lock is now correct and shooting this pistol is now a real pleasure (however still difficult to master, like any flintlock)
I also dovetailed a rear sight ; the vent is very large : 0.01"
I've got one. one guy at the range is always whinging about how it's all wrong and won't shoot, but as long as the flint is sharp it's fine. .575 ball, 5thou patch and 25gr 2F.
I will have a look at getting the hammer modified. that does look better. I will post a pic of mine when I get home.
