has anybody have any experience with "canned heat" ammo from Georgia arms

I ordered two thousand rounds of .308 canned heat last summer. My FAL ripped the case heads off two rounds during extraction, but neither required a broken shell extractor. No problems otherwise, and you tend to get that on occasion using reloaded brass in military autoloading rifles (which, to ensure reliability, tend to have vigorous extraction compared to, say, a bolt-action hunting rifle).

Out of my M1A, the Canned Heat .308 150gr is giving me about 2 inches, plus or minus .25 inches.

I've shot a couple thou of 45 ACP and a 9MM without issue. I have since moved to reloading.

The one thing I noticed was that it was all mixed brass. Do they use new or once shot brass? The lable says "factory loaded" but they guy got a little dodgy when I questioned him about it at the show.

I've shot about a 1k each of .40 and .45 without problem. I have another 1k each sitting downstairs, and I'm thinking about ordering another 1k each, but I'm waiting on the prices in the ammo deal in the group buy thread before I drop the hammer. They have good service and communication, too.

Big Fan of Their .38spl Ammo

I've been routinely buying 200-300 rds of their version of the .38 spl FBI load since November and running it through my M85 Taurus with absolutely no problems. That and its about 40% of the price of the Remington/Buffalo Bore loads that I carry (and at least $2-$3/box 50 of .38 plinking ammo). It mimics the ballistics/recoil of my carry round well making it excellent practice ammo.

The lead wadcutter is too hard and the hollow point too small (as Mr Stephen Camp noted in a test) too make it a good self defense option. But if you had to use SOMETHING it will go bang if needed. Its more of a practice than SD round and fits that niche very well.

Their customer service is among the best with my orders acknowledged and shipped very quickly. I can usually paln for a shipment to arrive in time for a weekend shoot without any problems.

I bought one of the canned heat tins of 500 .40s&w at the last gunshow through town - the ammo all worked flawlessly. Seemed no better or worse than WWB .40s&w FMJ does.

I was unimpressed with their .38spl - in the first set of 50 rounds i had a primer not ignite (never had a problem with that pistol before or since) on the first shot - it made barely an indentation. Put it through again and it fired..i think it wasn't fully seated, so the pin seated the primer more than denting it on the first shot.

"The lable says "factory loaded" but they guy got a little dodgy when I questioned him about it at the show."

They make ammo for a living - lots of ammo. The guys at the shows are salesmen/dealers/agents/whatever. It's not made by a bunch of guys at home on the kitchen table like some of the stuff at gun shows.

They make ammo with new brass and with used brass. You can pretty much tell which is which by the price. I forget which is called what. I just look at the plastic bags and ammo cans at the gun show, pick what I want and throw money at the guys.

No problems with pistol ammo.

I bought a thousand .223 for range and light competition work. I case gauge each round before loading it in a magazine. So far I've found three rounds with case heads not properly crimped that might have hung up. Or might not, hard to say. They weren't grossly out of spec.

I also had a couple of rounds that didn't fire off despite good firing pin hits.

Nothing to report on accuracy. I haven't bench rested or chronoed it.

GA .223 has never given me a problem. But I am still slowly shooting through a 1000 rds of .308 I bought almost 10 years ago. It has always shown signs of high pressure. Flat primers, a few splits down by the case head. And this is through 3 different M1As, a howa bolt gun, and a savage bolt gun. I am down to about 300 rds of it now. If I was a sane person I'd pull the bullets and use 'em on my own reloads. I never have these problems with my reloads. I R careful! I think GA is sloppy. Just MHO.

I have shot a little of it, and it did fine, i was gonna order a whole bunch but then i started reloading.

my buddy bought 2k rds of it, and used it exclusivly at 2 Tactical response handgun courses, excedding 1200+ rds in the 4 days. and they did fine, no issues no complaints. Since then we have finished off the rest again no issues.

I've ordered .38 500 rounds ball. A couple of brass were mangled and didn't fit in the gun, but not a big deal. I feel the gunpowder is "dirty" though, lots of smoke too.

I have shot roughly 2000 rounds of 55gr .233, 500 rounds of .45 230gr. 500 rounds of .45 185gr (think), and 500 .38spcl semi wad cutters.

The .45's were shot in three different Kimbers, the .38's in my S&W 686 and Marlin 1894.

I had no problems at all with the ammo, in fact I am waiting for the next gun show so I can buy more.

I've shot about 300 of the 1k .45 ACP 185 gr JHP I ordered before the election (ordered in Oct received in early Dec - components were already scarce). I've had failure to feed with a couple of dozen in my Kimber. I figured it was because my Kimber is finicky. I was thinking about running them through a factory crimp die to see if that would help. I only use it for practice and plinking. It always goes boom once it's in the chamber. With the track record that I've had with it I would not use it for carry ammo. The ammo can that it is shipped in is pretty cool though. I've started reloading since I purchased it but the price was right when I was shopping.

edit to add - I purchased the reloads with mixed head stamps. The new was about $40 more per thousand.
edit again - I just checked. The difference in price between new and reloads is now $60 per thousand.

In the past I've been satisfied w/ the quality of handgun ammo I've purchased from GA Arms. My last bulk order arrived in a cheap plastic ammo 'can' that was broken ... I contacted them to voice my disapointment and I've gotten no response .... w/o the ammo box it wasn't a good deal ...

I have used their 45ACP, 45LC, 44 Mag, 357 Sig, 357 Mags, 38 Specials, 9MM, 380, .223, 308, 306, and cannot recall one bad round in many, many thousands.

any reason you are not reloading?
the amounts you are purchasing would closely pay for a complete reloading set up. the savings from 2k 45 and 1k 223 would have you saving $--if you reloaded

about canned heat--their music was great for the times; some still floats on the airwaves
