Hello I'm looking for an EBR. and I ran across the XCR by robinson armaments. The reason I'm interested in it because it comes with all the rails already on it.

Also does anyone have anysuggestions for mounting rails on an at 15

Thanks as always

Get ready for a wave of snickers and Robinson bashing....

The XCR has been in development for some time...and RA has continually delayed ship dates. Much to the consternation of hopeful buyers. By all rights the gun has tremendous upside...most are waiting for someone else to take the plunge.

I know a few frequent visitors to this forum have some hands-on experience with the XCR...hopefully they will chime in.

In the meantime:

Ok so the XCR is going to come out around the same time as Halo 3. So what do I need to put on an AR to give me 4 rails to hold all the stuff I want to put on it. I'm looking for suggestions

If the XCR does what it is suppose to, I would probably rather have one instead of any AR-15. In short, if you want something with a bunch of "goodies" than you are better off to sticking with the AR. If you want a simple and robust weapon, the XCR should fit the bill a little better than an AR.

My only problem with the XCR is if it's retail sales date keeps getting pushed back. If it was available now I would get it instead of an AR and then I would get another instead of an AK but I'd like to have an EBR before march of 06

Coronach, I believe, has had hands on experience with the gun and speaks very highly of it. Based on his posts in general I would say his take on things should at the very least be taken seriously.

Wrong Corr moderator. :) It was me not Coronoch.

Do a search under my name and you can see my review of the prototype.

But the glitch now is that they keep pushing back the ship date. I've ordered a bunch of them for my store, but the date keeps moving back. I don't know when they will ship either.

Because any new design is better than one that has been field-tested, battle-proven, and incrementally improved for 40 years...

. . . because 40 years ago the AR15 needed improvements. One difference is, XCR won't have a defense budget to work out its quirks.

Don't get me wrong, I don't intend to get one of the things.

Ugh, the fan boys are out.

These rifles look neat. Excellent engineering, quality above and beyond what the rifle needs to function adequately for battlefield conditions. No stupid French direct impingement system. (stupid French).

Too bad prices start at $1800 for a rifle you can hold and aim.

I think that for the civilian market they would be better off supporting the 7.62x51 familly of cartridges. Or at least that would make this rifle interesting to me.

After getting to handle one and take it apart at the last Knob Creek show it's on my to buy list. Unfortunately I haven't had the chance to shoot one yet. Haven't heard anything about when it's shipping, but the two guys that were looking for dealers in Indiana that might be interested in carrying the XCR. :) I was happy to send a list of several gun shops to them.

Hahaha...

Apparently so are the naysayers that refuse to acknowledge that the M16 family of rifles and the 5.56 cartridge has been in military service longer than ANY other rifle OR cartridge, and that it's obviously viable due to the fact it has been PROVEN over and over and over. Obviously the last 35 years of reliable service isn't enough to overcome the first 5 years where a bureaucrat helped screw with a new weapon's reputation.

40 years, people. 40 years. But of course it's still just a poodle round and a horribly unreliable gun.

The AR may be reliable enough as is (assuming you avoid all the deviations from what the military has actually proven that seem to be popular with internet commando's) but it is going to be much easier to clean the XCR after a shooting session.

Speaking of AR's direct impingement: I only recently realized that it makes AR much easier to suppress effectively than almost any other gas-operated autoloader. AKs, Sigs and Armalites all vent high-pressure gas near the muzzle, bypassing the suppressors.

Delayed blowback rifles (G3, FAMAS) don't have that problem but they have their own set of problems (violent extraction which has to be mitigated by Revelli channels in the chamber which, in turn, make the chamber crud up faster). No free lunch in gun design, I guess.

Did you mean with the American military? Hrm. I'll give it 50 years of active service.

7.62x54R was used from approximately 1891 up until and including the Korean War in infantry rifles, ~1953. It is still in use in marksman rifles. The Mosin-Nagant rifles were used as infantry rifles until the 1960's, and have since been replaced by superior designs.

7.62x39 was introduced right after WWII, as was the SKS and shortly after the AK47. The AK47 has been produced in numbers greater than the M16, has been used for a longer period, and by more armies. I do not mean to imply the AK47 rifle and/or 7.62x39 cartridge are superior, but the statement that M16 is the senior citizen of rifles is incorrect.

Lol, it seems like if you say even ONE negative thing about an AR you are thrown into the "AR bashing" crowd. Whatever, I do not claim to be the authority here. But, it is still plainly obvious to me that the XCR concept has a lot going for it. Is it going to change the world and replace the AR-15? Most certainly not, but lets not dismiss a potentially excellent firearm soley on the basis that the AR-15 has been around longer ;)

so those grooves are there because of a violent extraction? Why would it need grooves if its so violent, an ak doesn't need em. I thought they were there because its not so violent...at least thats what I think I read in SGN. are you sure about that Oleg?

The AR was built by the hand of god himself (You guys don't happen to hang out on LS1 boards, do you?). We all know that an AR has never, ever, ever jammed.

The gun and the round are perfect. That's why the US Military is dusting off 50 year old M14's to use as counter sniper weapons. Pay no attention to the fact that they are testing the 6.8mm SPC as a replacement for troops that have a high risk of seeing combat. Pay no attention that they still use .308 for the sniper rifles (along with the big fitty).

The AR is a good (not great, not perfect) design, but it is not god's gift to rifles.

Yeah, that was Larry, not me. I was the moderator drooling and wishing he had hands-on experience with the XCR.

Right now there are three things that bother me about the XCR:

1. Vaporware!
2. Spenderific!
3. It will shoot 5.56 NATO, at least in its first iteration.

Now, I'm no 5.56 basher, but I really can't see myself shelling out 1.2K clams for a .223 tacticool rifle when I'm already pretty invested in an AR. If I did not have an AR yet and problem 1 was resolved, then maybe. But... I dunno. Ask me next week. I'll change my mind by then.

If it ever comes out and it works as-advertised, it will be pretty danged cool. Rugged, reliable, modular...elegant simplicity.

Dammit, now I want one again. Sigh.

OK, since NOBODY else bothered to answer your question in the 20 posts proceeding it... (you know, the ones spent insulting each other, the rifles, the caliber, etc.) I will...

You can purchase one of the MANY forends available for the AR15 that range in price from $99 to $399 and everything inbetween. Some simply replace the existing handguards, some require that you remove the barrel and install a special threaded barrel nut.

If you would be so kind as to tell us what the configuration is of your current AR (carbine, mid, rifle) that you would like to add rails to, and what you plan to attach to those rails, someone could help you choose the rails that are best for your rifle, your needs, and your budget.

Well my current configuration is a Rem. 870 I have no rifle but I want one. And when I get it I want to put a whole bunch of stuff on it. Now since the XCR looks like it comes with the rails on it I was/am interested in it. Now I re-read my posts and I never poo-pooed the venerable AR-15. The XCR if half the claims are true seems like a good value. But I emailed Robinson and my gunshop is a Robinson dealer and he faxed them about the XCR and they did not reply at all.

First thing I want on the AR is a foregrip and a sight. But I'd rather not get anything that depends on batteries. What I'd like is a reticle with a crosshair I've seen them on military weapons but I can't find it whenever I try to google search for them. If I have to go battery powered then I would go Eotech.

The second thing is a light I'll get a surefire from my neighbor he is a dealer. I want a light because the EBR will join my EGS(Evil Green Shotgun) as my primary post hurricane weapons. Before anyone tells me I need a pistol I have 2 a Ruger P94DC(in .40) and a Kimber work of art (TLE 2 stainless which IMHO is just a beautifully made weapon) that fires the 45 ACP.

The last thing I would get is laser sight but that would be a long way off
