I didn't realize it, but Tapco is on their second generation Mini-14 magazine now. Back in June we heard that the Gen I magazines weren't up to snuff (nutnfancy mercifully only took 16 minutes to say it).

Now Tapco revised their mag. Has anyone tried the new ones? Do they feed any better?

Just recieved some new mags

I just recieved some new Tapco Mini-14 .223 mags yesterday. I'll try to find out if they are Generation II today and when I go shooting after work I'll let you know how they work in my 581 series. Not sure how older ones work in it as I just got it and have only used Ruger 5 round mags in it so far. They do insert, seat, and eject well. I have about 6 or 7 different rounds to try in them. Most in Lake City brass from AE and BVAC.

I haven't heard anything about them, good or bad. The first gen mags had a lot of feed issues from what I had read, so they made changes to the design. Since I found a place that sells factory new 20 round mags for $20, I never really looked into any of the aftermarket offerings.

My magazines appear to be Gen I. They don't have any of the issues that Nutnfancy had with his though(slow feeding and wobble). We'll see how they wear. Gonna go shoot a bunch of 3 shot strings as I break in the barrel. So we'll see how they wear after 25 insertions and ejections. I'll do some tonight then do a whole lot more on Saturday.

BTW I bought my magazines at CTD on last Friday so they still have Gen I's in stock.

Was rained out on Friday night. But I did get to go put a few rounds through this morning.

After 15 insertions each my mags are starting to show a little wear on the hole in front where they lock in. They fed fine, though I only put 3 rounds at a time in.

Once I figure out what ammo this gun likes(so far AE 55gr 5.56mm XM193's have shot the best, but I've only been shooting at 25yards, damn snow) and get the barrel broken in I'll buy a case and see how they hold up, gonna try to get a hold of some new ones to compare.
