Does anyone have personal experience with this pistol from Taurus? I've seen it show up as available recently, and Bud's Gun Shop lists it for sale. Just wondering if anyone has tried one out and has an opinion. Not looking for your negativism on other Taurus products or the brand, just this one pistol specifically.

Well Taurus uses the same frame for the single stack PT945....so its the same gun, single stack 9mm with a light rail. Ive had 2 of the 45's, 2 PT911's and 2 of the 940's........all have been perfect. If you want a single stack 9 with a rail...you will like it. Shoot well......

The photo of the 909 on Taurus' website looks exactly like the PT-908 I used to own (passed it on to a brother) -- only the 909 has the accessory rail and advertises a 10-round capacity. The 908 was a single stack 9mm (8 round mags), decent sights, quite good fit and finish (in fact, a good lookin', good-pointin', good-handlin' pistol) that was easily concealed (flat, short barrel).

My problems were with the truly bad DA trigger pull (creepy, gritty, hard) and a sub-par SA pull as well. Other than that, it was a totally reliable and acceptably accurate piece.

PT 909 comments

For what its worth, I bought a stainless Taurus PT 909 when they came out in the fall. I think it is a good looking, ergonomic gun and it is solidly made, but the trigger action is awful even in single action mode. With the hammer cocked, there is about an inch an a half of slop before it fires. I am looking for someone to do some trigger work on it to tighten it up some. Still, having 17 rounds of 9mm in the belt is nice.

The PT909SS is one of the handgun I am very interested in. I preferred the stainless model. I use to have a Taurus PT940SS and it shoot well. I sold it do to not going to range enough. I included a pic below. Taurus make beautiful Stainless Steel handguns. I will probably buy the PT909SS by the end of Spring after I get my AR15 and AK47.

PT-909

I have one of the stainless steel PT-909. I've put about 300 rounds thru it of all types of ammo with out a single feeding problem. The best group I'm able to get is about 2 1/2" at 30 feet. I know I can do better than that because I can use my friends comp .45 at 30 feet and all holes will touch about a 1" group. I do agree with the other posts about the trigger. I feel this is the problem with the accuracy and a trigger job should fix it. I have tried it with snap caps and the trigger pull is very stiff and no matter how carefull you are when the trigger breaks you can see a slight jerk to the right. Other than the trigger it is an great firearm that I would steak my life on. I have it in the shop right now getting a trigger job and will let you know how it does then. I would highly recomend the PT-909 if you are willing to get a trigger job done it on it after you buy it.

:D

It looks nice!
It looks to me that it has a 1911 type of grip angle, which is a plus.

Nate137,
Do you know if the PT92's magazine woul fit/function on it?

It looks a lot like the PT908 I used to own a loooong time ago--but now w/ a light rail.

It was a good gun. Fed and fired reliably. But it was only accurate with 147gr. 9mm loads. Anything lighter, and the target looked like a shotgun pattern. :cuss:

Is the 909 a single stack or double stack? :scrutiny:

I posted another eval of the PT 909 on another thread but just wanted to sumerize here. The accuracy has been disapointing. The earler 2 1/2" group was from a bench and has turned out to be luck. I have put a lot more ammo thru it and had expected it to get better as it broke in but that hasn't been the case. On average with ball and hollow point I can only get 6" to 7" 17 round groups at 30' and average 2 or 3 out of the clip missing the paper altogheter. After more test shooting I wouldn't recomend this pistol to anyone and am considering trading it for something different. I get a lot better groups with my $179 Makarov. Overall it has been a disapointment for a gun I paid nearly $500 for.:cuss:

PT909 Lo-Capacity magazines

All,

I need to find California legal magazines for this pistol. Anyone know of a source for 10-rounders? Will the PT-92 mags fit/work?
