Has anyone tried out these new Taurus 709 slim models yet? I've had reliability issues with a previous Taurus (PT140) so I'm wondering if these new 709's are much more reliable and trustworthy of being a good pocket carry.

Anyone had problems yet?

Not true. Mine's got 700+ rounds of all types of FMJ and HP ammunition through it - no gun related issues after a couple of misfeeds using PMC Bronze in the first couple of hundred rounds. There seem to be 'good' and 'bad' examples of the 709. I've got a 'good' one, and it's my daily carry.

But why gamble ?

If some are made good,and some bad,then " F. " them !!
Buy a reputable gun from Glock,Sig, or H&K ect.... !!

Even the $359 Bersa's have a better reputation for reliability than freakin' Taurus !!

the 709 does not have a design flaw. It sometimes has assembly problems. Mine now has 1000 flawless rounds through it, 200 of the +p. It is a super pistol and one of the absolute easiest to carry. I can recommend it.

I tend to agree with this. Wouldn't you rather put your trust in a carry gun that has more reports of reliability than one with less?

I soooo want to get this gun for it's slimline profile and ease of carry, but man... if there have been reports of this failing on close to 50% of users...

I'm not so sure that it's 50%, though there have been some reported problems here. My guess is that the overwhelming majority have had no issues . . . that generally doesn't make the news in forums like this.
