Has Century's quality improved?

I can't say for sure if Century has improved but I have purchased two within the past year. I'm very satisfied with them. The WASR is exactly what I wanted and expected. Nothing fancy. The current VZ's are impressive..... Very well done.

I suspect Century has been growing their network of outsource subcontractors more and more over the years, so they don't have to do nearly as much work themselves as they used to. Seeing as how imports by definition come in as batches, I can visualize Century having to throw together a crack team of drunk monkeys on a moment's notice the instant the BATFE finally lets their mouldering crate of torched kits through the Port Authority. Not a recipe for success, in any scenario. which is why Century historically focused on importable configurations, or those with very few mods required to be saleable (Tokarev safeties and MAS49/56 chambers, and they couldn't even do those right :D). The AKs & G3s seem to have started them down the 'manufacturer' path, and that was probably more due to other options like Garands, SKS's, and FN49's drying up than a desire to make terrible weapons.

Between outsourced receivers, Green Mountain barrels, and consistent parts that can be reliably used gun-to-gun with simple jigs due to original parts quality, there is very little to go wrong in the assembly of VZ2008's (except the front sight cant, which may simply be CAI's trademark at this point :p)

I have a Century/Cugir AES-10B RPK that took two mags to break in (still shot just fine, just cycled a little slow) and hasn't missed a beat since.

I also went out and bought a brand-new FN SLP Mark I 22" semi-auto 12ga that was NOT cheap, that i want to use for 3-gun at my gun club. It jammed so severely on every shot, i put four rounds through it, and it is currently back at FN.

ALL gun companies are not exempt from bad workmanship!!
