So rather than investing in some decent QC, they decide to dump the product line? Interesting choice by management if true. Or is there a fundamental flaw with the design that's been discovered?
Design is fine (or at least, close enough*). Remington can't ream a chamber properly anymore; that speaks to much bigger and more difficult institutional problems. I don't think Remington
can make a good product any more, at
any price point. I honestly doubt they can even implement proper QC anymore, due to managerial issues that would be had with such an undertaking.
When everyone from your workers, to their foremen, to the management, to the inspectors, are all in on the 'con' to push out substandard product, there's not much you can do but burn the whole thing down (as they are doing). When your upper management can't be bothered to address
any of the worries of their customer body throughout the entire process (it's been a press blackout for Remington since the rollout, not counting ad-copy printed up and contracted in advance), there starts to be a question of whether they are even capable of razing the barn, let alone raising it.
I think they're mostly biding their time until capital reserves get low enough (see the recent push for long-delayed recalls and simultaneous inexplicable company purchases) they can default and be liquidated.
