I have often seen men on the Trap range stand in just such a manner. I often thought it was a bad idea, and do not practice it, yet it is most accepted.

Those pics weren't so bad, no blood or gore. Bet it hurt though.
Makes ya think twice about resting the barrel on your foot though.

foot

this is in another site and I question it.I dont see a drop of blood any where
and no blood on foot, yes it could be cleaned but it would still bleed.I have seen some bad cuts that did not bleed but they oosed serum.

eh.. just walk it off...

that would totally suck, but just one reason I dont point a gun at my foot or rack the slide HOLLYWOOD STYLE...

The hole in the boot is much too small to come from a shotgun. At an inch range, the size of the hole would be the size of the barrel. I believe a .45.

Looking at the 3rd photo, this sure looks like a shotgun to me. That may be a large boot, and the leather would have bent inward & pettled at the shot & flexed back a little to make the hole appear smaller. You can see muzzle burn around the hole, looks like direct muzzle contact. It's not likely this guy deliberately flush muzzled a pistol & pulled the trigger on a FOOT. Rifle maybe, but the entry & exit on the foot sure look 12 gagish. When I was 13, I took a nice little C-notch out of the corner of my nike while lowering the hammer on my Stevens Crackshot .22. Had done it mindlessly hundreds of times; and still violated all 4 sacred rules. Luckily no harm done. This poor sod is yet another graphic reminder to stick to the code, mateys, all 4 of them.

That's a lucky dude, a mid foot shot would have been very destructive, might be able to keep that toe..........:uhoh:

The grandfather of one of my high school friends was missing the second and third toes on his right foot from just such an "accident". Shooting trap, resting the muzzle of his empty gun on the toe of his shoe.

He said it turned out to be pretty handy, because it left him an empty spot in his shoe to rest the muzzle on.

Maybe all those guys who make a habit of this already have an empty spot.

I could see resting it on your foot if it was a break action and it was open or a pump with the forearm to the rear (mine don't close with gravity). If your action can close by gravity, keep it off your foot, if your action isn't locked to the rear.. same deal.

Note, I said I can see it.. never said I could see myself doing it.

O U C H ! ! ! ! ! ! I JUST SHOWED THIS TO MY 8 YEAR OLD BOY. HE NEEDS TO KNOW WHAT CAN HAPPEN IF SOMEONE GETS JUST A LITTLE CARELESS. i sure hopes the guy heals up ok! i am going to print these off and post them on his wall, right along side of the "firearm safety rules" that he is supposed to be learning.

I see people resting their muzzle on their foot all the time on the trap field. Seems to me that it's only acceptable with an open and unloaded break-action gun. Even then, IMHO, it's a bad habit to get into, especially because new shooters see it and think it's normal, so they do it with pumps and semi-autos, sometimes even loaded ones.

Check out the muzzle diameter of a .410 sometime.

it's possible that it was a 20 ga. shotgun, and that would explain why he is only missing 1/2 a toe instead of three toes and a couple ounces of actual foot.
