Have you ever had a dream in which you can't shoot?

Like Darth, I thought I was the only one. In one dream I was shooting at my grandpa in his back yard with a snub nose revo of some sort. The gun fired at least six times but I didn't hit gramps with a single shot. It gets better, At that time I had never shot any type of revolver, let alone a snub nose. Also, I have no idea why I was shooting at my grandpa, I love him as much as a grandson could love his grandpa. I guess maybe I was mad at him that day or something.

Another dream I have often is that I'm standing around with some friends and another group, all males, spot us from the other side of the street. Immedietly I notice they don't want to be friendly, mostly because of the look on their faces and the speed at which they start aproaching me and the group I'm in. When they get about 10 ft. away they all start fumbling through their persons and, of course, I suspect they are pulling out weapons of some sort. I reach for my gun and draw smooth. I line up my shot like a pro. The group I'm with seem to just dissapear. I pull the trigger, nothin! Pull it again...nothin. Theres a couple interresting things about this dream too. First, I can't remember the last time I hung out with a group of people on the side of the street. Secondly, The guys coming after me never actually get to me, or at least I never remember what happens after my gun misfires.

I can't even tell you how frustrated I am when I wake up. Lol.

This is incredible!!!

I had no idea that such dreams were so common. I once had a dream where I was watching my buddies getting hosed in an enemy cross fire. I was not in the line of fire but I had a bolt action rifle (Lee Enfield) and I wanted to fight back but I couldn't chamber a round. The bolt handle was unbelievably seized as it felt like the whole breech was coated in some sort of ultra-sticky molasses! I looked down onto the top of the mag to try and see what was wrong and I was horrified to see that all the rounds where loaded "cross-ways"! The frustration and anger was intense! BTW, does anyone wanna buy a No.4 Mk1 ???

Last night I brought this thread up in a discussion with my wife. She says that she commonly has dreams where something happens where she needs to scream but nothing comes out in the dream. She'll be trying to scream for help but no one can hear her...interesting how common these type of things are.

good thread!

The other night I had a dream that the trigger on my gun was so heavy that I literally couldn't shoot to save my life!

:D Wow! That nearly always happens in my dreams!

Neither guns or punchs work in my dreams.
When I'm firing a gun, nothing happens. In fact, the gun I was holding will have a nasty habit of turning into a peice of piping or something. When I try to punch some one, it feels like I'm punching throw gelitan(sp).

Yes, I've had dreams where the trigger pull is really heavy, but not impossible to pull. It makes it impossible to aim, though, and it's only with handguns. I've also had a dream where the bullets moved slowly (like baseball line-drive speed).

I never seem to have dreams where any kind of battle is the sole focus, though. Most of my dreams are adventure/complex puzzle dreams that may or may not involve guns, and when they do have guns I rarely need them. But, like waking life, I need them from time to time, and they usually work.

Man this is scary. The trigger pull in my dreams is somewhere between 80 and 90 tons. Not even Glocks work! I figured I was the only one. Appears I was wrong.

Years ago I would have a dream where my gun falls apart. It will open
up like one of those old time revolvers and pieces would fall off. Of course
this was at the worst possible moment.

My punches as well were ineffective but for some reason knives always
worked. I have not had a gun dream in years. In fact I seem to barely
dream any more but for the most part I have a sense of it being a dream
and that is when the fun begins.

I had a dream once where a speedloader just wouldn't let go of the rounds, no matter how much I twisted the stupid knob, when I tried to reload. Which is weird, since I don't own any speedloaders. It's definitely made me more likely to get Safariland or Jetloaders, though, instead of HKS loaders.

It's good to see that these are common dreams. I have had variations on all these types of dreams- gun is broken, unloaded, loaded with wrong ammo, all rounds in magazine backwards, etc.

To me the worst ones are the ones where I need a gun and just run around like a maniac trying to find one. These seem to go on forever, one locked drawer or empty case after another. Then the few I find are flawed in some major way(having to hold the gun together with both hands to fire it is a big one). The frustration and lack of effectiveness I get from these dreams don't require a very smart shrink to figure out.

My dreamguns need a real good gunsmith, though.

YES

Unfortunately for me these types of dreams make up about 90% of all the dreaming I do.(No comment on the other 10%) They almost always include some type of bad guy, or general threat. I will always have a gun of some kind, but it is either out of bullets, jams, malfunctions, or I can't get the safety off!! These dreams drive ME CRAZY!!! I just wish for once I could completely dominate a situation and kill all the BGs with one mag.

My wife always tells me it is because I read the THR too much. I used to have these types of dreams before I was reading THR, but honestly I think their frequency has increased, but that might be due to the fact that I am have my CCW now and try to be more aware of my surroundings.

This is too wierd:

Just last week I had a dream where a guy broke in, I hit him 5 times in the chest with a .357, he sits back in the chair, hands me his gun, apologizes for breaking in and we have a beer while we sit and talk.

I've had dreams before where it takes an incredible amount of force to pull the trigger. When I wake up I have to do some dry fire practice to convince myself that I do, in fact, have the strength to pull the trigger. Another recurring theme seems to be that my bullets will leave the barrel and then fall to the ground about 15 feet from the muzzle. So when I'm shooting at whatever it is I have to basically lob my rounds at it.

I can't count the number of times I've been dreaming about that huge 10-point buck in my crosshairs and I cannot pull the trigger with all my strength! The buck just stands there looking at me and I can't do anything!

Wow, it's really awesome that you guys have dreams like that. I have dreams all the time in which the trigger is so heavy that I can't pull it, or that I am too tired to pull it, or both. I've never experienced any firearm malfunctions in my dreams except for impossibly heavy triggers.

I thought I was the only one.

Edit: Haha, although, i do remember a crazy dream I had once. I was in the kitchen with my parents and they wouldn't listen to me, so I started screaming, and they still woudln't listen, so I pulled out what I remember to be a blued, 4" DA revolver of some kind and emptied it into the cieling while hopping around and shrieking in anger.

It's weird because i'm a calm guy and I have a great relationship with my parents.

I've had most of the bad dreams mentioned above. Usually it's the 90 ton trigger pull followed by the ineffective and slow bullet. An interesting point is that they went away for a while after I was involved in a shooting. They came back, but to a much lesser extent, a few months later. They continued to fade through the months and are pretty seldom now. My dreams didn't change at all after the second shooting.

Strangely enough, I hardly ever have "successful" gun dreams.

Lol, this happened to me in real life.

I was working out really late one night (24 hr gym) and I went shooting the next morning.

My hands and arms were really sore still.

I was shooting my .22 rifle, so no problem.

But then I see a guy with 2 brand new Polish makarov clones, and I had always wanted to try one.

He saw me eyeing them and offered me a couple pops.

I literaly couldnt pull the trigger, the DA was so bad. I could not get the hammer to pull back all the way and break!

Talk about embarassing.

Nope

Reasons I don't have nightmares anymore. Before I got my CCW and had too much pizza before going to bed I would have the standard "werewolf chasing me up and down the block" until I would wake up in a cold sweat.

But a "bad" dream I clearly remember was just after I got my CCW and at the time was carrying my 1911. The usual...had too much spicey food to eat before bedtime...drifted off to sleep and the standard scenario surfaced.

In my dream I would pull up to my place in my truck, get out and a werewolf
(big sucker too  ) would pop out of the bushes close to the driveway and snarl evilly.

But I clearly remember pulling my 1911, even being so realistic as to flick off the safety ( I carry condition 1...even in my dreams :D ) and shooting him twice without any hesitation COM.

The werewolf looked down at a couple of gaping holes in his midsection...mouthed something like " Thats not fair!!!" and ran off. Then I remember waking up bursting out laughing and eventually slept very well that night.

That was over nine years ago....and in that time, it doesn't matter what kind of food I had before going to bed - NO NIGHTMARES!! Its as if my sub conscious understands that if a scary monster shows up in my dreams, he'll get shot :D

The one that I have that is the weirdest is the some one I know is a serial killer, it's been almost every member of my family, my girlfriend, my best friend from school, literally almost everyone that I know and truly love. They are really not very fun dreams to have.

I can't believe I missed this thread. I have these dreams all the time. I had a dream where the gun wouldn't work or it would work. But when it worked, I couldn't put the guy down. I had a dream where I put 13 .45ACP's into a guy right in the solar plexus and he just kept walking towards me. Maybe I shouldn't have seen the Terminator movies so much.:D

Had a "Thundering Herd" of Baddies running up the driveway, so I pull out the .30-06 bolty gun...
BOOM!...

None of the Bg's even shows a flinch..I look at the muzzle of the rifle, and about half of the bullet is sticking out Wha ? ? ?

grab the pliers, pull out bullet, fire again BOOM!...same effect 1/2 of bullet sticking out the muzzle...

Toss down the rifle, pick up the 12-Ga shotty..BOOM! I see the #4Buck travelling toward the BG's slower than a drunken snail, and then the pellets just bounce off, like in the old "Superman" tv series.

By now, first BG is within "Butt-Stroke" distance.....So, I give it my best melee attack...and the stock swooshes right through the BG, just like Patrick Swayze trying to punch out the BG in "Ghost".

Now I wake up, in a cold soaking sweat....

I had a dream that a Tyrannasaur was chasing me up into a giant building made of white stone letters. It had tiny beady eyes and was clutching handfuls of cowboys in its grasp. I knew I had to shoot out its eyes. I had some sort of SMG in a bottlenecked caliber, like 5.7 or something, don't know how I knew what caliber it was, but I knew it wouldn't get through the animal's thick hide. Every time I would line up a shot, a cowboy would squirm out of its grasp and into my line of fire as he climbed away. Then I would have to run away until I could turn around and get another shot - when yet another cowboy would wriggle free and jump up in front of my target.

I have dreams like other posters have mentioned. Can't squeeze the trigger, bullets ineffective, punches ineffective, etc. But the really funny thing is every time I have my AK in a dream it works 100% :D

I must just have a lot of confidence in that ugly little commie gun  .
