Exactly! If one wants a Hawken, he can pick up a real nice one for about $375 or less.

Just my observations. First off, Cherry's expends quite a lot of verbiage describing their Hawken rifles but I don't see where they mention the manufacturer. Second, at the sale price they are quoting, I'd opt for a GPR.
Regarding Connecticut Arms, I would be reluctant to do business with a company that is unfamiliar with BATF regs. regarding antique and replica weapons. Requires an FFL indeed.
Again, just my observations, your mileage will likely vary.

Finally, even though a prohibited person may lawfully possess an antique firearm under Federal law, State or local law may classify such weapons as “firearms” subject to regulation. Any person considering acquiring a black powder weapon should contact his or her State Attorney General’s Office to inquire about the laws and possible State or local restrictions. A list of State Attorney General contact numbers may be found at www.naag.org.
For example:
In Illinois, muzzleloaders and black powder guns are considered firearms.
Air guns that are larger than .18 caliber and that have a muzzle velocity greater than 700 feet per second are also regulated as firearms.
Illinois has no stand-your-ground law, however there is also no duty to retreat. The use of force is justified when a person reasonably believes that it is necessary "to prevent imminent death or great bodily harm to himself or another, or the commission of a forcible felony." There are some additional protections for defense against unlawful entry into a dwelling.
