HDF suit on Hawaii's unconstitutional carry laws

Hello,

A group (Hawaii Defense Foundation) has just filed a lawsuit to regain Hawaii's right to carry firearms for the purpose of self defense. I plead that the THR support this lawsuit in as many ways as possible so that we here in the State of Hawaii can defend ourselves from the growing incidents of violent crime that this down turned economy has sprung.

Currently the law here is one of "may issue", however, it is effectively "may never issue" in this state. The government of the State of Hawaii NEVER issues permits to carry firearms to any private citizen. Therefore private citizens are degraded to subjects that the criminal element may pray on at their convenience.

Not sure this belongs in activism, but I do like that they have added striking instruments and electric weapons into the "arms" mix.

On the note about striking interments and electric 'stun guns', those are also illegal.
Sad to say that even the act of defending one self, by any means, would come under scrutiny, if the need ever arises, even in thine own home. I for one am tired of the coddleing of criminals, and revolving doors in this state, and I hope that the HDF's lawsuit is successful.

I've tried Writing to the NRA to see if they will offer support on this. I have not received any word yet. If you can not donate a little for the legal costs, maybe a letter to the NRA to help support the HDF. Just passing the word on to others about this issue will be a great help.

This issue is near and dear to my heart and I have written letters to various representatives at the state level about it. I've been stationed here since 2008 and I try and support any initiative that would change this from a may (never) issue to a shall issue state. Thanks for the heads up on this case!

An update on what is going on with this.

"The state's reply to Chris's lawsuit is due by the 21st of this month, and the hearing on the injunction request is as follows: NOTICE of Hearing on Plaintiff's MOTION for Preliminary Injunction set for Court Hearing on 1/17/2012 at 10:00 AM before JUDGE ALAN C KAY. (lls, )."

The NRA has not responded to my inquiries on the issue, however, I have seen reports on this issue (sparsly) in the local news.

It's really disheartening for activists when our "flagship organization" the NRA, refuses or fails to even comment on such an important situation.

I've never lived in, nor have I ever visited Hawaii, but the way I see it, we're all American Citizens and should all have the same rights.

I'm sending my letters off to both my own state's representatives as well as Hawaii's representatives.

This is very interesting to me as well, as I am considering moving over there in the near future. IIRC it's the HPD that 'decides' who gets (doesn't get) a CPL, sounds corrupt and illegal if you ask me. I have family on Oahu and I have spent a lot of time there, from what I've seen the HPD is run by politicians, not police officers.

Great news, I guess there is hope after all... I wonder how long it will take to drag our state kicking and screaming into the new post-Heller reality. It's ironic that the 2nd is incorporated word for word in the Hawaii State Constitution.

Sounds like one of the biggest issues with may issue states. It becomes whoever is buddy buddy with the ones who decide if one is "worthy" of carrying or not on if they get to, not if the person is qualified or not.
