This is a repeat of the "North Hollywood Bank Robbery", but still pretty cool. I think the two perps were using illegally modified AK's. Check your listings but I think its on at 10 eastern tonight.

Evil assault weapons, par excellence

Thank you soooo much for posting this. I have been waiting to see this episode ever since I missed it months back. Thanks!!:)

I love when the 2nd robber was putting his stuff in the brown hi-jacked pick up truck when the police cruiser rolls up and starts firing at the robber. The robber then runs backwards in front of his white car and starts spraying his M16 with beta-C through the windsheild, towards the cops.

I've coined that move, "The Hollywood Shuffle".

I saw a police training video that covered that shootout. They claimed that the firearms were taken from them prior to the shootout, and returned. They wouldn't have returned illegal firearms. Of course the entire video could have been incorrect.

beaucoup ammo,it's not a movie,it's recorded live footage of a real robbery in progress. If you haven't heard of it or seen it yet,it is a must-watch thing....:D

Before the first break, they mentioned that at least a year before the robbers had attempted any robbery, they were pulled over one night by the cops. The show does not mention why they were pulled over, or why they were subsequently arrested, but only notes an "aresenal" in their trunk and that they were "gun fanatics".

This aresenal must not have been illegal, because the program also noted that after the pair was released from jail, that they petitioned and got their weaponry back.
I suppose the producers want us to assume that a trunk full of guns is inherently a crime. Well, maybe in LA it was, but then how'd they get their stuff back?

I wish I knew exactly what crime the pair had committed in that instance.

wikipedia entry says

Larry Phillips and Emil matasareanu had a large array of firearms on this day, which they surely planned to use should anyone interfere with their plans. These firearms included:

*
o An HK91 modified to fully automatic

Used by Phillips as he fired at officers on the left side of the bank, the rifle itself took a hit to the bolt guide rails, which causes little damage.

*
o A Chinese made AK47 modified to fully automatic

Used by Philip after discarding the HK91, as he started his an Emils escape. The rifle stovepipe jammed, this means a spent casing did not eject all the way, and hangsin the ejection port, like a stovepipe.

*
o Two Romanian AK47's modified to fully automatic

Both Phillips and Matasareanu used these rifles during the robbery, and during the first few minutes of the initial engagement with police.

*
o A Bushmaster AR15 modified to fully automatic

Matasareanu retrived this rifle from the trunk of their getaway car after sustaining a leg wound, he then waited in the car fo phillips, while shootin through the windows. This was also the rifle used by Emil as he was engaged in his last shootout with SWAT officers(Special Weapons And Tactics).

*
o A Beretta M92 9mm pistol

Larry commited suicide after sustaining several hits, a few of which would have been fatal.

These are only some of the duo's weapons, as police recovered more after the shootout in their safe house. It is my personal speculation that the other weapons recovered may have been failed full auto conversions.

Id also like to point out my view ont he duos weapons:

*
o Using fully automatic weapons was a mistake, as semi automatic fire is aimed fire, meaning more fatal hits, while fully auto is spray and pray you hit something, it is no coincidence noone but the robbers died.

Wow! I had no idea so much footage existed of the actual shootout. Yes, big difference between a movie ("action!") and the real thing.

Thanks for pointing out this fact and introducing me to this great series.

Is it just me,or does anyone else think a cool-headed officer with a .308 bolt action could have solved this problem quickly and efficienctly?

I like Shootout in general. It almost a scientific look at what happen, where everyone is, what they are shooting, etc. Real interesting and entertaining. I like the Iraq war one.

How about a 50BMG to the chest? Surely that would have killed them despite the body armor...
Police went to a gun shop for long guns. Are 50 cal rifles that common?

Saw the show last night, very very well done.

The police had asked for patrol rifles and had been refused by the city. The police went to B&B Guns and he gave them AR-15s (with ten round civilian magazines, because the hicaps are illegal in Cal. This is a great example of how gun control doesn't work). The .223 would have been enough to burn through their body armor. Yes, an officer armed with a .308 could have ended the situation, but none of them had a .308.
They were arrested earlier and their guns were confiscated for conpiracy to commit robbery, but it was plea bargained down to time served and the return of their firearms! If that isn't a demonstration of the hypocrisy of the left, I don't know what is. Let's see; let's take away guns and hi cap magazines from the law abiding but give known criminals their guns back!

For those who missed SHOOTOUT and to Phil De.

during any previous broadcast l checked my TV schedule and THE HISTORY CHANNEL will be broadcasting it tomorrow, Oct 12, at 10 PM Central time. If you missed it this is your chance.

I have to reply to Phil D. who was the previous entrant in this thread. You talked about the hypocrisy of the left etc because they gave guns back to the perps. Why are you so sure that it was "The left" who gave these two BGs their guns back?? I say you are shooting from the hip, verbally. It was not necessarily the left who did this.

About B&B, if I remember correctly, the owner was fined or worse by BATFE or Cali's BAFT because he violated the rules and gave the LEOs the rifles.
:fire:

If that is true, that is sad. Just plain old sad.

I watched all but about the last 10 minutes (DVR'ed it though so i'll finish tonight). I thought it was well done and didn't have an obvious anti-gun slant, they mentioned they were illegally converted. It did raise my eyebrow how often they mentioned armor piercing ammo. They weren't using real AP stuff, just standard rifle ammo correct? Just about any rifle ammo will pierce a IIIA vest.

If that's true that's enough reason right there to disband the whole organization and tell them to go apply at the mall. If SWAT hadn't arrived at that time they would have severely needed those ARs. They were getting ventilated. A lot of good Kali's gun laws did on that day.
