So last night I decided to swing through Sportsman's Warehouse here in town, wanted to take a look at some shotguns, maybe get some reloading components, the usual browse through on the way home....

I already have an Uberti 1858 replica, so I decided to check to see what kind of BP substitute offerings they currently have, and down at that end of the guncounter is where they've got their BP firearms..... And as I'm browsing there, I happen to see a couple of BP revolvers with VERY LARGE cylinders. I knew they were a Dragoon and a Walker, but I'd never seen one up close nor handled one. So the guncounter guy wanders down, and I ask to take a look at those beasts.

So he hands me the Walker first, and I think that even he is surprised by how much this beast weighs.... I was reminded of the scene in "The Three Amigos" where Martin Short's character is handed one of the villains' revolvers for a duel and then can hardly pick the monstrosity up. This sucker was HEAVY! And as I looked into the cylinder I would almost think you could use the chambers for olympic diving events. I'm pretty sure I heard an echo as I was talking to the clerk coming from the chambers!

So then he hands me the Dragoon. Still heavy, but not as bad, and it actually balanced really nicely in my hands. Now I'm by no means a small guy, but that Walker felt like it was gonna cause me to list to starboard! The Dragoon, on the other hand, had some heft and while definitely not a pocket gun, it wouldn't make me walk crooked....

Time to make room in the budget for 1 or 2 more BP arms..... :)

Got a 2nd Model Dragoon a few months ago. Load of 40gr Goex 3fg, 457rb, lubed wad. Distince was 25yds.
