Today I heard that a friend of mine is selling a gun from H&K called the "VP70". It looks almost brand new yet i havent heard anything about this gun. I don't even see it in the search engine in these forums.

Its expensive. and i doubt its worth what hes asking (roughly 600). It has the cheesiest polymer frame ive ever seen.

the trigger is beautiful for a double action only.

why haven't i heard about this gun? Is this thing like the red-headed step child of H&K?

One of the first polymer-framed autos - I think it's 9mm. The military version, once hooked up to a shoulder stock, would fire full-auto. He's probably selling a civvie model, which isn't F.A.
As for the price - that's about market rate for this piece.

Strange... all the pictures make it look about the size of a PPK, but they say it has an 18rd mag.

Those pictures that Shrike posted have the stock mounted directly behind the slide. How does it function, if the stock blocks rearward slide travel??

Look again at the last picture. The stock doesn't block slide travel. In fact, it has rails on it.

I've had mine for some time. It's like a brick and has never failed to fire.

There are a few drawback to a VP-70z:

-It's heavy

-I haven't found a holster yet that it fit's

-Extra mags, if you can find them will be expensive

-13 lbs DAO trigger gets old after about the first 3 shots

Things I like about it:

-18 round mags

-Very few moving parts and it's the only handgun I've ever owned that has never had a malfunction. (and I own several)

-Looks like a space gun.

I seen a piece of crap looking one at the gunshow last month for $700. I personally thing you could do alot better with your $600 than a VP-70z but they are kind of cool looking.

It's and HK, so $600 is a good deal. The VP70 was the first poly gun...a taste of things to come. Really an acquired taste but can be a fun gun to shoot (at least once & a while! ;) )

Too big, too heavy, and only a 18 round 9mm. The cool factor is pretty high, though, and they were used as the "officer" sidearms in a popular movie :)

It's the first polymer pistol , the trigger is terrible, it's a blowback type action which because of it's design drops the velocity at least 150 fps.

I would love one, tried the trigger years ago, and have no issues with it. Walked away from one for $400, thought I could get one cheaper later. Stupid me. Someday, maybe. Loved that video, thanks.

If you look on the rear of the frame, just below the slide, you will see where the cut out for the stock attachment slot would be milled out on the FA ones. The burst mechanisim is contained in the stock, part of it is in the protrusion you see on top of the stock, just behind the slide. The sights are "different" too. I bought mine long ago, with 5 magazines for $240 when they were closing them out. I had a "trigger job" done by an H&K armourer and ended up with a clunky pistol with a great trigger.

A friend of mine owned one and he let me shoot it. The trigger was creepy, mushy, and felt awfull. It was inaccurate, did not fit my hand very well, and the sights were bad. Its no wonder they did not last long in this country.

Not arguing here, but how would this system of operation cause a loss in muzzle velocity? I would understand if you said a loss from a gas delayed blowback mechanism as in the P7.

SigfanUSAF as the link mentioned by Shrike360 says, it is pure blowback operated . No roller locking [delayed blowback] like the MP5. To operate a 9mm blowback you have to have a very strong recoil spring .To solve this problem they cut the grooves twice the normal depth .This requires a lighter recoil spring but reduces the velocity by 150 fps. HK pistols have had delayed blowback actions like the P7 [gas delayed] while the rifles and smgs ,and P9 pistol ,[G3/MP5] have had the roller locking delay system. The VP70 was a design for a typical pistol/smg thing that the germans like .
