Guys,
I was involved in a wreck yesterday, and in the process of making a statement, they ran the numbers on my gun. I was carrying an 1873 Uberti Regulator, .44 cal with birds head ivory grip.
Come to find out, one number was reported stolen. Exact gun, bird head ivory grip, Serial #8302. Yes, my weapon has 8302- on the side- but my serial number heavily roll stamped is on the bottom, and is like 6 digits long. I
My brothers got the same gun, but with wood grips, and his has 8302 on the side too. I have contacted Uberti and am waiting reply, but if I don't get anything to show them by Wednesday, they are gonna book me for felony possession of a stolen gun... no fun!
Any ideas on this? The FFL my Dad purchased the gun through was older than my Dad even and has passed away. His records are wherever the Federal Gov't files all that. I don't have a sales receipt, I've had the thing like 16 or 17 years... I do have the box, and photos from '98 or'99 with me wearing it. The weapon was stolen in 2002.
Any help or advice or ideas on what to do next will be greatly appreciated!! I am at a loss, and not really wanting to bring my brothers weapon, they'll say it was stolen too!
PLEASE HELP!
