I have taken it apart and im not sure if the springs are coeerct in the bolt assembly .i ve tried marlin web site ,no help pix would help.its for my son he wants to trin on a bolt action for his boy scout badge.
Thanks

Yeah I called but no one called me back I think that it was made that way, since there isn't a visible safety on it. no matter, its a neat little rifle and my boy can't hurt it (famous last words)

I believe it is a feature, not a bug...:)

I have one that I bought recently to teach grandkids how to shoot and it is similar to what I learned on back in the early 1960's at the Emerald Bay Boy Scout camp on Catalina Island. I think mine is a late 50's or early 60's model, but since there are no serial numbers it is a bit hard to tell.

You always have to cock the gun by pulling back on the round thingie on the back end of the bolt after you have loaded a round and closed the bolt.

It is a nice, old-style safety. I'm pretty sure that is how it was designed to work.

Absolutely correct. It was my first gun beyond a BB gun, given to me by my father (I think he picked it up in the 70's for $5 used). The bolt is solely to feed the manual loaded single shot round, then it's cocked by the knob. Tell your son to enjoy it, but hopefully not follow in my footsteps. "Yeah, Dad, the pigeons are gone....No, I don't know how all those little holes got in the tin roof in the barn".
