I'm trying to load a quantitiy of 308 that will work equally well in my match M1A and Rem 5-R, without overtaxing my M1A's gas system.
Here's the catch.... I want to use the 175 SMK (that I have 1000 of). Also, I have a NightForce scope mounted on my 5-R that has Kenton knobs (calibrated elev. and wind. to a specific load) calibrated for the 175 SMK @ 2600 fps. So, my question to you is: what is a good load, using Lapua brass, and a powder suitable for the M1A, that uses the 175 SMK, and travels at 2600 fps? Thanks for any help!

Here are some sites to look at:

These people really know Service Rifle and loads, but you'll have to register before you can do a search:

I still use the 168gr bullet, so I cannot advise you from personal experience on loads with the 175gr, but all my friends that did switch to the 175gr said Varget was THE powder. Bear in mind that Varget was designed to be a 'short cut' 4064.

Thanks Guys- The Brad Sauve F-TR Match Load of 43 grns Varget, for 2610 fps, is what I was looking for! You saved me some legwork, thanks!

You know that 50fps is going to make a minuscule difference in trajectory. Keep in mind that published BC's can be very different from the real world; which is your BDC calibrated from?

I'm a fan of IMR4064 with the 175SMK. 42.0grs in a LC case with a WLR or Rem primer. That should be safe in Lapua, but may be a little slower.
