do you have a gander mountain or a simular store near you? if so, they will have both AK style and AR style rifles (or at least my GM does) like younganddumb said, you need to shoulder one. see which feels better for your frame.

I've shouldered both at my local gunstore, but don't really know what I am looking to feel, so it is kind of pointless. Most of my gun experience up to this point is w/ handguns

Pistol grip def goes to the AR. The AK pistol grip was very small. I don't know which one felt more balanced to tell the truth. Thats why I think I am just going to have to pick one and learn.

When I got my 1st pistol I had no idea what I was looking for and based my decision completely off others reviews. Now that I am more experienced, I can actually feel the difference b/w a crappy trigger and a good one, a gun that points naturally for me, etc.

Similarly, I think it is going to take more than just shouldering a gun to know how it feels b/c I don't know how it is supposed to feel at this point. The differences are scuttle enough (or my ignorance is great enough) that in my inexperienced hands I don't know the difference. That said, the short stock on the AK made me feel like I had to bring it in very close to me opposed to the AR

then get the ar. but remember, the LOP is diffirent on some models, but is usually they are all pretty close. if i had to have one rifle, as before stated, i would get the AR, doe to its modularity... you have said that you know the diffrence between a bad and good trigger. on the whole, the ar's trigger is better than most AK triggers, due to better tolerences. also, reviews are typically better for the AR than the AK. after all this, it is all up to you. when you choose, we wil help you get a good model.

hope this helps:)
