Help me choose a .204 for Varminting

Got to my local gun shop today and did some fondling. They only had a couple from my list:

Savage 12FV (223 but should be the same in 204): Wow, I really like the bolt handle, bolt was smooth and the trigger was awesome!

Remington 700 SPS Varmint: Though the stock was nicer than the Savage, the bolt felt clunky and trigger was HEAVY.

I also handled the Remington 700 VL SS Thumbhole: Trigger seemd a bit lighter and crisper than the 700 SPS. Bolt was smoother too. The thumbhole tough would not work for me as I have small hands and I felt like I was stretching for the trigger.

So, I am 95% sure I will be getting a Savage. Man that trigger is sweet! I just have to figure out what kind of stock I will end up with. The basic one on the 12fv just felt flimsy and cheap. Don't know if I would be better off getting the base model, then upgrading the stock or finding a pull-off or after market.

Savage VLP

or BVSS. If it is for Varminting and targets you will appreciate the heavy wood stock. I don't think I would bother spending the extra money on the LRPV. From what I have heard so far they don't seem to do quite as well as the less expensive VLP's. Now that I have two Vlps, given the choice, I would choose the Vlp over the BVSS stock. I have 5 with the BVSS stock and Had I not bought 2 VLPs I would never have known the difference. I guess what I am saying is either of them are very nice so if you can get one with the BVSS stock for $50 bucks less go for it and don't look back. Both my 204's shoot sub 3/8" 5 shot groups at 100 yds. I was loking at the CZ527Varmint the other day on Gunbroker and if you were to get one of thoseI don't think anyone could possibly blame you.:)

I don't really want stainless, so I guess I would have to go with a 12FV and get an aftermarket or pull-off stock. Though I would probably leave the stock the way it is for a while and just use it (I would have to save more $$ for a laminate stock). I have had the plane jane stock on my Howa for a couple years now, and I am just getting a new 95% finished laminate for it on Monday. Still waiting on Midsouth to get the Timney triggers in for it. A friend of mine has the same Howa and he did some work on his trigger and it is LIGHT! I may have him do the same to mine or help me do it, but I don't want it to be unsafe while waiting for the timney.

Anyway, after trying that accutrigger, I am sold. :) I wouldn't be surprised if all my bolt guns from here on out are Savages with accutriggers. I had a savage 17hmr before and while it was plenty accurate, the trigger wasn't that good. I see now they have the accu's.
