UPDATE!

I thought I'd give you all an update on my search. I traded my FM detective for a used Ruger P89 today :D

I didn't think I would end up with the ruger, as I find it ugly as hell (still do) people seemed to recommend the triggers of the 92Fs and Sigs more. I dry fired a bereta Commander? (smaller 92FS) and 92fs in 40sw in the store. I liked the grips MUCH better on the Berettas. They are larger, and fit my hand better. But I didn't notice an appreciable difference in the triggers, and I preferred the stock sights on the ruger. I also liked that the ruger was a lot cheaper; I just couldn't justify the price of the Berettas when I liked the Ruger so much.

A couple of questions though. I have the stock grips on the Ruger now. does anyone know of aftermarket grips that would bulk up the grip a bit, so it would feel more like the Beretta? I'd be curious for any grip recommendations, really.

Also, (and this question will def make me seem like a noob :uhoh: ) how exactly is double-action supposed to work on an auto? I was always under the impression for some reason that pulling the trigger DA would both cycle a round and cock the hammer/fire the gun. My P89 does not do taht, and now that I think of how an auto works, that makes perfect sense. I am correct in that now guns will load a round into the chamber in DA mode?

I'm also a little confused about how best to carry the ruger, should I want to. There is no safety other than the decock, so i would not want to carry it loaded and cocked for obvious reasons. But, if i don't want to cycle the slide before firing, wouldn't I need to cycle the slide, chambering a round, and then decock the hammer? Wouldn't this put the hammer in contact with the firing pin assembly, so that if bumped, the weapon might go off? I looked, but couldn't really see if the firing pin retracted or there was some sort of "trasnfer bar" like ruger uses in their revolvers.

The only 2 ways to cycle the slide on a double action auto are to fire it or manually rack the slide, pulling the trigger won't do it.
Your Ruger shouldn't have the hammer resting on the firing pin when decocked. The trigger would need to be pulled back for that to happen. Dropping the hammer with the decocker is the safety.
PX15, I wouldn't worry about the Kel-Tec P-11 wearing out, they have a lifetime warranty, the factory will fix it free if you do wear it out.

get a kimber like me and wait 6 weeks for it to come in haha. I think i wont regret my kimber when it comes in, but if i had to choose a different gun i would get a p99 or xd-9

Glock 17

Have 8500 rounds through mine. I replaced the extractor at 6K rounds and that is it. Utterly reliable, all types of ammo, even Wolf (which probably ate most of the extractor blade).
