I'm weighing a few very different options for my next Sig. Yes, I've got a solid case of the Sig-ness. Keeping my calibers limited to .45 and .9mm though. Given my collection below, and some of my options in the poll, what direction do you think I should go? I'd be using this for daily carry, home defense, plinking, etc...

My current collection includes the following:
  • P229 9mm - my favorite handgun
  • P228 (Swiss Police 9mm)
  • P226 (1989 Police trade in)
  • P225/P6 (two of these)
  • P220 Carry (railed) .45

I see that you're lacking a 239. Also a newer 226 would be nice. I bought my 239 a couple of months ago, and its stock is rising as I shoot it more and more. It's relegated the G19 to the truck and fights with my 642 for the esteemed role of EDC. I actually surprise myself with its groupings. Downside is capacity.

Sig 232 maybe. I have been wanting one of those for a while now. Also have you seen or heard anything about the new p224? they just introduced at ShotShow but it should be on Sig's website

I voted other.

Look for a new or lightly used triple serial mumber 9MM German SP2022 with Ilaflon finish.

Here is mine:

I am, and always have been a fan of the P228, despite the DA/SA trigger. Just something about the gun makes me happy to handle.

Steampunk Queen - could not agree with you more about the p228. In fact I made the decision to a pristine buy one from a local gent. Unfortunately, although we agreed on price and we're setting up a time to meet, he ended up selling the p228 to someone else - a few hours after we had agreed. Grrrrr :fire: So, back to square one.

Sigarms228 - I considered the SP2022, but it's not on the list (right now) due to the rails. Not a fan on them cosmetically, and actually snagged a rail on my P220R Carry on my VMII holster.

The p239 has potential, as it is something the wife could also potentially use (somewhat smaller pistol for her smaller hands).

The p224 is starting to concern me, as is the p229 SAS. The p224 is a new model, so would like to see the kinks worked out first. Also, Sig's MSRP on the p224 is something over $1,100. Yikes.

The p229 SAS seems to have some issues that grayguns has pointed out on another forum (relating to the barrel channel?).

There's nothing wrong with a second 228! It's probably my favorite pistol and was the one gun that I kept when I had to liquidate my collection a few years ago (I'm slowly building it back up mow). I think Widener's used to have some, but I'm not sure if they still do.

I'll second the P239 recommendation. The a good compromise for a range / carry gun. I love mine..

I have averaged size man-hands and find the 239 to be perfectly proportioned for a comfortable grip.

How about adding a Sig 1911 to the collection? They make a great 1911.

What a wonderful problem to have! The 239 is on my "I really need that" list, but appearantly my kids prefer eating, so it will have to wait a bit. I think it might be close to perfect for ccw, as I'm not into plastic.

I have a P226, P228, P225 and P220; I'm really looking at getting the P239 for my daughter. She's shot just about everything I own and has done well with the Sigs. She turns 18 in June and it would be a nice future college apartment protection piece and make a decent CCW when she turns 21 (and I push her to get her CCW license).

So, my choice is the P239...that's what's on my list:evil:

I voted for other, seems like you have a good amount of 9mm already, with only one .45acp. I think a full size .45 from Sig would really add to the collection. Either a 1911 or one of their decked out 220s.

Like the new scorpian line that they have for the 229, 226, and 220 Elite series

This is helpful. I've more or less narrowed it down to the p239 and p228 (if I can find one). The p245/220 compact is a dark horse candidate.

The p239 got my attention at the LGS yesterday. Felt like a Sig version of a Makarov or PPK. Well balanced. The downside is that I could see it replacing my p225 for daily carry (and me needing more holsters). Same capacity, less size and weight.

But I'm still hoping to find a nice condition used p228.

The Sig 1911 is not really in my thinking right now. I have a Springfield and Colt, and these cover the 1911s in my collecting needs at the moment. Most of the other Sigs are no longer contenders for me, because of the rails.

i have owned many sig hanguns & still own a p228 swis police turn in, a sig 1911 ss carry, & i recently bought a p239 sas in 9mm & it has been great. i took it home cleaned it loaded the mags to set the springs before i took it to the range. I have not had one ft feed or fire, it ran perfect with all types of ammo 115 fmj's, 147gr hp's & 124+p hp's everything ran perfect. I had it with me at the outdoor range one day & was hitting 8 out of 9 times rapid fire at 25yds. The only modification i did was change the grips to the hogue finger groove style. It is now my daily carry gun.

Think I would go with a 226 equinox. Just looks sexy in the photos. Does Sig Sauer make any of their weapons in Germany that we can get here in the states anymore?

I had a P239, it handled and shot great but went through mag springs like crazy. The P229 SAS is what I carry, only slightly bigger than the P239 and 5 more rounds in the mag.

Thanks to all for their comments. Well, I wrestled with this, and in the end got a decent deal on .... a Sig 228, KA date. Should be on the way to my FFL soon, but pictured below. The 239 and the Sig 1911 may be in my plans for 2013, though... Nice to have a long range plan :)

Thanks! I was tempted by that new batch of Swiss p228s popping up on the GB and GA auction sites, but those seem a bit spendy for the condition. This came up for $550 delivered, so I'm pretty happy with that.

The p228 is a classic, and that's my sweet spot. And while the p229 might be my preferred plaform by a hair (because of the heavier milled slide), it's sounding like Sig is having some QC issues again (not just the barrel channel on the p229 SAS version, but now extractor issues are being reported in the p229 line).
