Help me find a 20" AR upper?

I am looking at Model 1 sales, PSA and BCM doesn't have anything in stock. I hate to order something and wait 6 months for something. Model 1 said they have a few kits and uppers in stock. The only thing is they are not known to me. The prices are more than fair though. I would feel a little more comfortable with someone I had heard of though. Anyone else dealt with Model 1? Or do you have any other sites that have 20" uppers in stock with bcg and charging handle? I should have specified that sorry guys.

I am trying to keep it all in the $450 to $650 range. Model 1 sells a whole rifle kit for $520 to $535 with A2 stock and all I need is one of my completed lowers. I would need at least a few more thumbs up to go with them though. I would really like a BCM upper as their reputation is stellar, but again that is why they are out of stock.

The BCM upper is made to the same specs as the PSA. There is nothing about it that would tend to make it more reliable.

I have a PSA 20" CL rifle from PSA, and am very satisfied with it. It's barrel is made by FN, and is the same thing they put on the M-16s they make for the military. It is about as close to mil spec as you are going to get.

I did a lot of shopping around, and I definitely think PSA is the best deal on the market. Their stuff is all made to the mil specs, and they are also among the cheapest on their prices.

I think I have found my upper! WOO-HOO! Has anyone dealt with PK Firearms? Here is the link to an FN manufacture 20 inch upper! With BCG too! In stock! http://www.pkfirearms.com/FN_Custom_Uppers/193/c Hopefully someone has dealt with them. I'm so happy, hopefully this is a great company. Thank you all for the help, I will be placing an order tomorrow hopefully! For $555 it seems to be a steal?

Never heard of 'em, but that's a good price. Do you want a float tube on this rifle? If so, I recommend seeing if they offer build options instead if having to deal with it after the fact....

I've seen PSAs choke on good ammo through good magazines.

I've never seen a BCM upper do the same.

Buy once, cry once...

I guess it has been a week since that post, but I'm seeing 2 20in PSA uppers currently in stock. One is a complete upper, and the other lacks a BCG and charging handle (but is selling for $299)...

I was just about to recommend them. I have bought from therm on several occasions. No complaints.

Hey Mastiff, did you already buy that one from PK?

If so, give us the scoop on it!

I was also going to say that this rifle from PSA also uses an FN barrel, though it isn't marked that way: http://palmettostatearmory.com/inde...0-5-56-1-7-cmv-chrome-lined-mp-hpt-upper.html

It would be about $50 cheaper than that one from PK, plus they are doing free shipping right now, but it might be worth it to some to pay the extra just to have an FN marked barrel.

PSA also has one for $299 they call the 20" Madness, which looks to be the same thing, just without a BCG or charging handle (which PSA is sold out of apparently).

Free shipping? Now I have to check this out. I didn't order just yet. Have to wait till friday(payday) so I'm in the market till then. PSA and PK Firearms are neck and neck now. Shipping from PK Firearms is $18 dollars bringing the total to $573. PSA is about $503 so it is $70 dollars cheaper. PSA also tells you what everything going into the upper is made of, PK doesn't say what their bolts are made of. If someone comes up with another company that has the same features in an upper and IN STOCK I will be in trouble.

I looked a little more at that one from PK, and it appears to have the FN barrel made from M249 barrel blanks, which have double thick chrome lining. The one from PSA just uses FN's regular chrome lined barrels, the same as they put on M-16's. FYI, PSA also sells the FN "machine gun steel" 20 inchers but they are currently out of stock. When they were in stock, I think they were about the same price as what PK is asking for them, if not a little more, so that price from PK is certainly not out of line. So factor the differences between the barrels into your decision. I honestly couldn't tell you whether the double thick chrome lining makes any difference, in longevity or anything else, but the market seems to think so, since people are paying more for them. It would probably increase the resale value if you ever wanted to get rid of it. I have a rifle with that PSA regular chrome lined 20" upper, and it has worked great for me so far with no malfunctions, though I haven't got into any real hard use with it yet.

In my opinion you couldn't go wrong with either upper.

OK, I've got some more info for ya... I e-mailed PK to ask about what kind of BCG's they use in their FN rifles, and they said they use RRA bolts. The BCG is chromed inside and the gas key is staked, but they are not MPI and HPT like PSA's. Also, the PSA's are M-16 full auto bolt carriers, and the RRA's are semi auto only AR-15 bolt carriers.

So basically with the PK you get double thick chrome lining, and with the PSA you get a mil-spec BCG.

Hope this helps!

Note you're going to be waiting a WHILE for that PSA upper to get to you. I'm waiting a 20" madness upper, going on 3 weeks, for an A4 build (.gov profile chromelined CMV barrel with F FSB). At $299 I can afford to wait, and hammer forged doesn't matter to me to spend extra on the FN.

I've ordered uppers and small parts from Pk before and they shipped quick. 14.5" M4gery was gtg. 20" A4gery they over torqued the barrel nut and canted the barrel, that also gouged the notch in the upper. I ended up swapping the barrel over to an A2 upper I had and pitching the damaged flattop one.

As an update I will say I ordered the 20" upper from PSA with BCG, Charging handle, and handguards. I also ordered the A2 buttstock kit to go with it. I don't think this order was all for me. Thanks for all the help everyone.

I think you made a good call. IMO those PSA's are underrated and underpriced, considering what all you get in the way of mil-spec features and quality checks. I say get 'em while you can for these kinds of prices.

20" Upper with all parts and A2 stock kit ran about $537. I plan on putting it all on my Bushy lower. Consequently, I will now have a Bushy patrolman carbine upper without a lower. I still have the SR-556 and another patrolman's carbine so I don't really need a 16" upper. I wonder if I should sell it or hold onto it? I could probably recoup some of the cost for my PSA upper that way. I put 20 rounds through it then put it away.

My other Bushy is rock solid (same patrolman carbine) and I got the new one left to me when my brother was killed. He had just got it as his first AR the week before but never got the chance to take it out to play. I miss my shooting buddy. He wanted to get a 20" rifle next, hence the PSA upper not just being for me.

My little nephew and my mom are staying the week here in the boondocks. He is just learning with his trigger finger being very itchy at first. I'm teaching him to slow down and take his time. I'm pleased with his progress. He is 13 and I started him at 11. He was shooting my .44 mag Super Blackhawk, and my Mosin by his second outing! Maybe I will get him a lower to go with the Bushy upper. My 2 brothers that have been taken from me would have liked that. He loves my 10/22 though. Maybe if I sell the upper I can use that to buy him his own.

He has unfortunately figured out the economics of shooting, I make him buy or help reload what he wants to shoot. He also gets ammo or reloading components (I spoil him!) for birthday's and Christmas. Anyways, thanks for all the help here guys and gals! I can't wait to post pics of my new beauty when she comes in!

After putting 500 rounds through my PSA 20" upper I am very glad I went with them!

It's been great so far.

Good deal. I'm trying to convince a buddy to get their flattop 20" with 1/7 barrel. Just saw your original post and was working my way to the end.
