Hi folks, Its time for a semi-auto 22. I already have a Marlin 39 and 60 but now I am looking for a semi-auto with a detachable magazine.

Heres the thing, I need the rifle to have at least 20-round magazines (aftermarket ok), be under $200, and not be a Ruger 10-22. I want my Marlin type accuracy and don't want to play home gunsmith nor throw hundreds of dollars into this rifle. I just want a large capacity SA .22 with a detachable mag. Does this exist in my price range?

Thanks for any help~

Hmm... You pretty much described a 10/22, but you don't want one. I have seen high-cap mags for Remington 597's. There used to be some for Marlin 795's, but I haven't seen those in a while. The high-cap mags are going to be the deal-breaker if you don't want a 10/22.

marlin or remmy will fill the bill....
the ultimate would be a marlin 70hc, a takedown Papoose, that came with a carrying case, and it's own hi cap mags, schwing!!!!

the remmy and the marlin mentioned above will fill the bill, but the ultimate would be the marlin 70 hc, it is a takedown Papoose model, with it's own carrying case, and it's own hi cap mags... hence the HC...
maybe the best of all will be the new keltec plr 22 pistol, it comes with 20 or 25 round mags I believe....

a .22 with an HC mag? yeah... i dunno. Why the HC mag though? I usually just use a couple 10rd-ers cause theyre cheap and I need practice changing clips with haste anyhow...

You could make a custom mag with the marlin 7 round mags, but that would probably be as reliable as the 75 rnd. frenkenmags for the ak.

Having just wrung out my new 597, I'll give it a big thumbs up. Literally put all 10 shots into a .35 hole (I know this because I could just barely squeeze a .357 Mag case through the hole from the .22s) I paid $170 + tax and should be getting my $20 rebate check in the mail soon. Not bad at all...

Get one of those high cap mags, and rock & roll.

Too bad 10/22 is not an option because it is the only one that can fit
you requirements! Also you are not stuck with an off the rack rifle
that nothing can be done to bring up to your accuracy expectations
Two out of three with one being off the rack are tack drivers scoped:)
The Remmys from two different testers, averaged just over an inch at
50 yards. My worst one will do that, and the other two are sub MOAs:)

Well, maybe I will have to rethink this... I didn't want a 10/22 because I don't want to have to throw a lot of $ into it to make it accurate. I was hoping there was something like the Marlin 795 with high caps. Maybe I'll just get the 10/22 and throw a little money in it at a time so the wifey doesn't find out... Thanks guys~

I have seen high-cap mags for Marlin 795, but they're like hen's teeth. Haven't seen any in several years and can't find any online lately.

Same page also lists 15 round AR-7 mags, ( and factory original 8 rounders as well) but you used the word Accurate.....

I can not vouch for any of these magazines' reliability, but they they are....right next to the Hen's teeth department.

2008 Shooter's Catalog showed up last night and I saw them before shutting of the lights for nighty-nite.

I'm a big 10/22 fan, but I just got a Remington 597 not long ago. You can get 30 round mags for it know, both aftermarket and Remington branded. I haven't shot mine a lot, but so far I'm impressed. I believe Remington still has a $20.00 rebate on them too.

I've always been satisfied with the out the box accuracy of my 10/22's. I don't worry too much about making one hole groups though. As long as they'll knock a squirrel out of the top of a tree they're good enough for me.

Well I can say this for semi auto 22lr guns that I know of. My sons Mossberg plinkster 702 ($99), hits pretty much every prairie dog I shoot at, unfortunately, it only comes in 10rnd mags that I know of so far. But hey, they are only $10 each so we grab one usually when we go to town. My wife shoots a Ruger 10/22CRR (compact model, stock and barrel), and it hits pretty much every prairie dog we point at as well. Neat thing about the Ruger is that they are accurate enough for plinking and pDogs and rabbits, right out of the box, plus you can slowly personalize/upgrade it as time goes by if you feel the need to. Have a friend that shoots a Remmy and while he doesn't use the hi-cap mags, it shoots just as good as the two we own. Now none of us has put these on a bench and measured holes in paper, but they are all accurate enough to do what we need them to. I realize none of this blabbering has helped, just wanted to throw my 2 cents in the ring.
